When I came eye to eye, I noticed the head was too small to be a Cottonmouth. (still starteled me the heck out of me) Lucky him, because he was gonna die. If I think it is poisonous, I kill it, just to be safe, then find out. Snakes, even the none poisonous kind, bite and can make you sick, if they bite you.
Why Kill iT? It was trying to get AWAY from you! You should have just left it alone!
The only time I chase snakes is when I'm mowing my lawn and there's a garter snake in my yard.... I don't want to run over the poor thing so I shoo it out of the mowing area (using a well placed stick behind it.. but not hurting it!)

I wouldn't be able to live with myself, if it were a Moccasin, I didn't kill it, and it bite someone's child. (or worse, my child) Since it wasn't, he lived. If I would have had a suitable cage, he would have made a great souvenir.

It's a good thing that it wasn't me, I literally go into panic mode at the sight of a snake! I am talking hyperventilating and the whole bit! I will stay at the Contemporary high up in the tower, and then use the monorail, then drink heavily before entering Animal Kingdom so that I don't notice any thing slivering around on the ground!
Glad you didn't get bit. And that they were scared of you and went the other way! A snake is a snake to me, venomous or non-venomous it doesn't matter to me, I hate them all!!

My mom is like that. Totaly affraid of snakes. She even freaks at the site of a toy snake, and she knows it's a toy.
This isn't the first time we encountered a snake at WDW. The first time was at the Comtemporary pool. It was early one morning when the pool first opened. My daughter was about 4 at the time. She and my wife got in the pool, I had just sat down in the hot tub when my daughter shreeked. There was a snake about a foot long in the pool with them. A cast member came up just about the time I was grabing at the snake. He asked me not to, cause if something happen to go wrong, he would be in trouble. He said animal control would come for it, which they never did. Well, I never saw them. They may have came after we left. Another year my son almost step on one. It was late at night and we were walking back to our room. I didn't see that one.
