LOL, cy1229, you just need to go look and see the damage we did on the thread in the General section about time traveling to a time in Disney history... Mayhem again.

It is a shame, but it is just the way we humans are unfortunately.

What idiots. I kept my belt alittle loose once but atleat I had it on. If they got hurt or killed, I bet the parents would of still sued and won.

Trust me, if they sued, they would NOT win. Disney had many high paid lawyers and if they could prove that he was unbuckled, then the family wouldnt have a leg to stand on.

But then that would also mean policy and procedure were not followed by the company...

I'd like to believe that, but there's always a way to make it the company's fault.

"He wasn't wearing his seat belt? Why didn't anyone check? How could he take it off after the ride was already moving? Either Disney's staff didn't do their job or the mechanics failed." Note that I don't agree with any of these positions, but any lawyer could make a case. Juries are very anti-big-corporation. I'm guessing it wouldn't even go to trial; it would be settled, much to everyone's disgust.
Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.

Well, that is a possibility, they might settle it out of court to make it go away, but that is still not admitting that they did anything wrong.

Companies like to settle, even when they are wrong, because it allows them to control the narrative and pretend they were the victim since no one can contest their statements.

Im' not sure the video even shows that the kid knew it was off though of course he did, so someone could argue that it was ride failure. That would put Disney in a sticky spot because then they'd be forced to prove the kid bypassed safety procedures- which means they'd have to, in court, argue that their safety procedures (which are often a main selling point and founding principle of the parks) are relatively easily bypassed. That's not an argument they'd want to make.

I'm all for personal responsibility but unfortunately that's not always how the world works. I'd like to believe that they wouldn't have to add lapbars to Splash Mountain...or heck it's a small world...for fear someone may stand up/jump out/fall out while doing something dumb. But if and when it happens and someone gets dragged under one of those barges it will happen because if someone dies at a park, regardless of whose fault it is or what caused it, it's a blackeye to the company.
