Diet Restrictions

Post by stinoi » Apr Thu 19, 2012 6:02 pm

So, my doctor recently advised me that I need to eat a diet very low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. We will be at WDW for 10 days in December. Anyone have suggestions on where and what to eat that would meet this criteria? I'm drawing a blank, and I don't want to munch on carrots all day or cook every meal at our DVC resort.

you can ask when you make your ADR that you need low-fat meal selection... given enough time, their kitchen can come up with an alternate menu for you

Probably try to stick to vegitarian stuff, choose grilled meat and ask for the sauce on the side.

Certainly make ADR's and let them know your dietary requirements ahead of time. It's rare that a restaurant will not try to accommodate special nutritional needs.

Something else you can do is take a look at the menus ahead of time and see which restaurants have the greatest selection of foods that match what your doctor has recommended. That way you get an idea of which places you'll feel least restricted. Good luck! It's hard to eat healthy and travel - American tastes are high fat, high sugar, and high salt. I know it's hard for me to eat well on the road. Heck, it's hard to eat well at home. :)

Oh, another tip that might help is to ask the dining operators since they are paid to know this stuff.

All good points made so far ~ definitely inquire when you make your ADR's. You can also ask the concierges in the hotels. They might be able to steer you in the right direction. Certainly the chefs at the different restaurants will try to accommodate your special dietary needs. Even at the counter services, when I would inquire about certain ingredients, they would make every effort to find out the answer and try to adjust the dish if possible. I think you'll find the food much more enjoyable and varied than you might expect.

Thanks for the responses! I'm sure there are more options than I've noticed, I've just never had to look before.

go on allear.net, I wish I knew the exact link, but theres a phone number for dietary restrictions. its a special number. I'm sure you can get it just by calling also. I used it ocne and they emailed me a form to fill out. This way they have options for you already when you get there. It worked out great for me!(diabetic).

Here is a link to the WDW special dietary needs page. It has quite a lot of info on there. The phone number to call seems to be the regular dining number.... http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest- ... -requests/
Looking at the list, the quick service counters that worked with us on a few meals are ones that are included as being able to accommodate special needs.

http://www.allears.net is a wonderful site to visit. We also spoke with a family on our last visit in Feb. They had a child that had strict diet restrictions. All the Sit down resteraunts were very helpful with altering items on the menus. Not sure on the quick serve establishments. :D :goofy: Good Luck and have a great vacation in December :D :D :D

Also, as soon as you are seated let your server know exactly what your diet needs are and they will bring out the chef for you. Every time we have gone there with a restriction, the chef came out and either made recommendations or created something that fit in the dietary guidelines. Disney is very acommodatng when it comes to dining.

Yep...I was going to say the same thing. Dining is probably the one thing left at WDW that has remained focused on the guest experience.

Also, you could try looking at the Disney Food Blog to see if anyone else there has written up some suggestions.
