3D movies at Imagination Pavilion
We did not see Captain EO on our recent vacation, since my wife thought it would be too scary for our younger children. I guess that means we probably won't get the opportunity to do so, since the buzz it created for Michael Jackson fans shortly after his death is probably over. As far as I know they've replaced it already. Anyway, as I'm listening to "Magic Journeys" on Subsonic right now, I'm wondering if there's some sort of technogical limitation on showing different 3D movies throughout the day? Why not have Captain EO play at certain times, with other movies (like Magic Journeys!) playing at different times? Not that Magic Journeys was all that great, but I'm feeling nostalgic about it:).

Re: 3D movies at Imagination Pavilion
The buzz died about a week after it was brought back (at least at DLR, which apparently had a stronger turnout), but it's still there as a placeholder for the next attraction.
The only limit might be having to sync effects to the theater, but that is also minimal since (at least for muppet vision at DCA) a film and effects switch was easy enough to do 3 times a week. The only reason they probably don't do anything is simply that there aren't enough people nostalgic for 3D movies and even when they bring back something by popular demand, the theater still sits mostly empty.

That's a good point about the effects, but were there any theater effects for Captain EO or Magic Journeys? I guess there might have been for Honey I Shrunk the Audience, but I never saw that one.Wizzard419 wrote:The only limit might be having to sync effects to the theater, but that is also minimal since (at least for muppet vision at DCA) a film and effects switch was easy enough to do 3 times a week. For EO there were two sets, the original (which were gimped/removed when Honey moved in) and the filler ones. When they put EO in again they did it as cheap as possible, since there was no reason to upgrade for a filler, so the moving floor, the wind, and some light effects from the show were used.

There are different shows for MuppetVision 3D??? Is that change only in DL? I haven't noticed different shows at WDW, but I did see on a recent blog that the penguins were frozen in the up position and Statler and Waldorf weren't moving when the blogger was there for the 40th.Wizzard419 wrote:The buzz died about a week after it was brought back (at least at DLR, which apparently had a stronger turnout), but it's still there as a placeholder for the next attraction.

Honey had quite a lot of movements with the floor, and some wind and water effects. I mostly remember the lighting effects for Captain EO and some slight floor movements.Wizzard419 wrote:For EO there were two sets, the original (which were gimped/removed when Honey moved in) and the filler ones. At DCA the muppetvision theater was (though it still looks like it is being used since the signs are still there) being used during ElecTRONica to show a 10-15 min preview (the same footage they showed at comicon) but with added ambient light and (and using the theater's wind effects) with the footage on screen.
I'm not sure if the WDW version of EO (during the original run) had the moving floor, but at DLR we did not and we had lasers and other effects that were removed in 97 for Honey would have not been worth bringing back for the EO tribute. The floor movement for EO (here) is a lot more than in Honey since all the base in the songs is matched by the floor moving.

Hmmm, didn't realize they used the Muppets for ElecTRONica. I don't think the floor moved with the original Captain EO in WDW either. I'll have to pay more attention this time around to see if the floor is thumping with the bass or not. It was sooooo crowded when we wentWizzard419 wrote:At DCA the muppetvision theater was (though it still looks like it is being used since the signs are still there) being used during ElecTRONica to show a 10-15 min preview (the same footage they showed at comicon) but with added ambient light and (and using the theater's wind effects) with the footage on screen.

Yeah they use the exit doors as the entry and exit, so that you're not standing around in the muppet themed stuff waiting from tron.
I wonder, with the programming, if our floor movement is unique to our theater as yours would be to yours since it's not like you can just throw it into a zip file and email it.

Hmmm, that is a good question. I wonder if Jacca's insider could find out any info on that? I imagine that would be an Imagineering control?Wizzard419 wrote:Yeah they use the exit doors as the entry and exit, so that you're not standing around in the muppet themed stuff waiting from tron.

Whether the floor movements for Honey I Shrunk the Audience, and now Captain EO, are the same for both DL and WDW, or are the movements unique to each theater...Jacca5660 wrote:Exactly what am I asking??

I think she means, "Does someone have to reprogram/re-record the movement for cloned attractions".
