CM Security and Costume Policy

Security couldn't care less about what is in your bag unless it is wires connected to a clock face and/or a loaded gun. Guess how many times that has happened...

On a side note, they are getting rid of security CMs checking bags for CMs coming into work through the backstage entrances. Instead, all front line CMs will get a new blue ID and they will have to swipe it to go through a new gate to get in.

I'm not sure about worker stuff but the guest check has always been a joke compared to other parks, considering that as long as it's not in the bag it doesn't get checked.

Basically the same thing. A joke. Point I was making was how much longer before they realize they don't need a security bag check for guests before entering the parks if they are getting rid of it for CM backstage entrances.

I didn't realize they had security checks for CM's too. I would think they would be more worried if any CM's are taking anything out with them at the end of the day

Oh, trust me, they are and for good reason. Many CMs have tried to steal stuff and instead of heading home after a long day of work, end up going to jail (obviously) but if you bought something while in the parks and you exit the parks through a CM entrance/exit, just show a receipt and you are good to go.

Esp. since Ebay is America's fence, they are probably watching very closely for any "theme park props" that magically go on sale.

I'm actually surprised Disney doesn't need the checks, I wonder if the lack of thrill rides steers more violent people away? If you look at some parks they have serious security (full metal detectors or wands, serious searches, etc.) Their real concern isn't terrorists, it's the more realistic idiot with a knife/gun that is ready to party.

Props, no. Merchandise, yes. Most dumb CMs are smart enough to know that most "props" that are worth $$$$$ aren't going to fit in a backpack or purse so getting it out of a backstage area would be next to. Plus CMs are getting smart enough (others have tried it and failed) to not use ebay or craigs list to sell something.

And yet, how many times do I see CM's outfits such as the HM butler uniform go on sale on Ebay?

Ah, the costumes. You do realize that if a CM does not turn in any costume they checked out, they will be fined the cost of the entire costume (from the manufacturer not a retailer so it is a hefty fine) from their pay. So then it is theirs to do what they want with it. And more often then not, they get paid far less than they were fined from their pay.

Wishes from the Poly beach

That and there are tracking numbers on it, since you noted it's checked out, and they could really make the person's life hell for selling company property.

Exactly. Unless they don't work there any more or have already "paid" for it, it is theirs to do with it what they want.

I wonder if the wording in their contract forbids such a practice though? Considering that the uniforms are rare enough, you probably could still earn a decent profit after the pentalty.

Might be different at a theme park since they have a high turnover rate, but I would imagine up until just about 5ish months ago (forgot when the Supreme Court slapped it down) competing companies would often agree to not hire people from the competition.

It would mostly depend on the costume. The Tower of Terror costume costs a lot more for Disney to get made than the Fantaslyland costume. And trust me. What Disney fines for non-returned costumes is a helluva lot more than what anyone would be willing to pay for them. No chance for any profit, they make sure of that!!!!

How much would they charge them for a TOT costume, for example? Right market + popularity makes people spend stupid money on such things.

Someone sold one of the original paintings from the Disneyland HM elevator sold for $47,500 because they had the hype and disney collectors in the audience.
