Disneyland ridethroughs - Ravenscroft narration?
I've been noticing that there are various ridethroughs of different classic Disneyland rides (I've noticed Jungle Cruise, Pirates, and Haunted Mansion) that feature an audio of the ride, with what sounds like Thurl Ravenscroft narrating the attraction. What are these from, exactly? Some kind of promo album? Thanks!

I went on one Thurl fansite and found a link to the various Disney Records that have his voice on certain tracks here: http://members.aol.com/allthurl/records.htm

Something I always thought would be a good project for some with a wealth of Disney knowledge and great detective skills, is to compile a table(spreadsheet) listing on row side the voice talent, and on the column side the attraction. I've always wondered how many voices are used from attraction to attraction.

an interesting fact on that point, I believe when they renovated the Carousel of Progress they used Rex Allen Jr, the son of the original host to do the voice since they sound very much alike. It would be interesting to build a list like that.
"Please stand clear of the doors/Por favor mantengan se alejado de las puertas"
Then to complicate it even more, one would have to look at years that each particiular voice actor's performance was used. Or even by versions of narration, a good example would be the Disneyland RR which had different changes periodically in additions to different actorsFlyingMouse wrote:Something I always thought would be a good project for some with a wealth of Disney knowledge and great detective skills, is to compile a table(spreadsheet) listing on row side the voice talent, and on the column side the attraction. I enjoy listening to the audio walkthrough of these rides. Reminds me of old suspense radio programs.

Thurl did the old Disneyland Records of the HM, POTC and Jungle Cruise. In the case of the HM, Paul Frees wanted too much money to do the record, so they went with Thurl being the Ghost Host. The records were sold at the parks as merchandising back in the late 60's and throughout much of the 70's.
BTW Thurl was Tony the Tiger, and Paul Frees was Toucan Sam.

That's probably because he was raking it in on the lucrative Rankin Bass holiday special voices he was doing!mindflipper wrote:Paul Frees wanted too much money

I think there's laws prohibiting putting "lucrative" and "Rankin Bass" when talking about salaries...horizons1 wrote:That's probably because he was raking it in on the lucrative Rankin Bass holiday special voices he was doing!mindflipper wrote:Paul Frees wanted too much money
