Mini Weekend Adventure

Post by MmeLeota » Aug Wed 11, 2010 12:31 pm

This past weekend Chernabog40 and I took our nieces on a surprise trip to CA. They knew we were going to CA, but not to a theme park. We left Saturday morning, listened to Radio Disney most of the way there and we came home Sunday (Radio Disney home again as well).

The main reason we took them was a D23 pre-screening of Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. The movie doesn't come out til next month, and we were asked not to give any details, but I will say this...we did not see the first one, but this movie was cute...anyway... We had to check cameras and cell phones in so we did not get any pictures during the event. :( BUT...

D23 posted this article on their site for the event:

http://d23.disney.go.com/articles/08091 ... ROCK2.html

After the movie we went to the hotel to get checked in, we decided to head to Santa Monica. What should have been a 20 minute drive turned into an hour or more thanks to some misinterpretation of directions. However, we did get to drive through the Topanga Canyon. It's a curvy, crazy road but the views are amazing! We finally made it to our destination and walked around the newly opened (remodeled) mall and walked down to the pier. Our oldest niece even talked me into going with her on the roller coaster! We then decided to head back as we were all exhausted...and this time we went the right way! ;) We had a leisurely morning and ended up stopping in Victorville to check out their mall on the way home. As we drove back into town, we were greeted by storm clouds..that ended up spitting about 17 drops... :? We took them home and then headed back to the ranch. A short but fun weekend for all.

We didn't really take pictures this trip as we focused more on the girls having a good time....if I find any good ones to add, I'll do so later.

Sounds like fun! Where was the movie premier held? (Too lazy to click on the link and read it at the moment, plus I need to get back to work...sigh)
Did you get to enjoy any time in the park too?

Nope, no park this time... :(

The movie was held on the Studio lot...a HUGE perk of going to these things. (if ever I can get my butt in gear, I'll have pics posted of the "Swiss Family Robinson" screening we went to in the same theatre...the one Walt screened "Fantasia" in back in 1940)

One thing I left out when it came to the movie...this time around they had buckets of popcron and cold bottles of water for us. (when we went for SFR, there were just room temp bottles of water...but it was better than nothing! :) )

What a fun D23 perk, Mme. L. I think that's the great thing about living in CA and having D23 - all the little special things they offer you.

I agree. But it would help if we actually did live in CA. It helps that it's only a 4 hour drive away, but it also prevents us from taking part in many events. (although, we were willing to make the drive out just for the final flight of Star Tours if we were lucky enough to get tickets!)

I would really like to see D23 branch out more to the members who are not in/near CA and FL. I know there are several members on this site who are nowhere near either place...please show them some love too D23!!!!

That is really cool MmeLeota... you are the kind of Aunt/Uncle I would want if I was young again! To think, you had to sit through Camp Rock 2... all for the love of your nieces! That alone makes me respect you even more! ;)

How very nice of y'all! Sounds like your nieces had a great time!

It seems like Disney went to an awful lot of trouble to keep any details of the "plot" for Camp Rock 2 from leaking.

I'm flattered...

*shrug* It was ok...seeing our eldest niece's face light up when Nick Jonas appeared on the screen made it worth the trip! :D
