Literally only 3 things went wrong that night: 1) The manager acting as coordinator told the Pilot of Pink he was clear to reverse through TTC on Express (through base in Monorail terms) to MK while on break OFF PROPERTY at Denny's. 2) The maintenance guy in Monorail shop (where they move the switches on the beams) said the switch was moved and did not notice that it didn't change to the spur line to switch to Express beam. 3) The Pilot of Pink assumed that the switch was made and didn't notice he was still on the Epcot beam until it was too late.

3 can equal multiple :P

There was also nobody at the controls that could have hit the emergency stop to prevent the monorails from colliding, it was a very foggy evening (I would know, I worked that night in Disney), and then the monorails were driving at higher speeds than normal in order to speed up the closing procedures

Three is three, not "multiple multiple."

You mean to tell me the two CMs on the platform (who have a power kill switch too) Pink was going through couldn't see a Monorail in the station? Then the Pilots wouldn't be able to see the hold points. The Monorails shouldn't have been running if that is the case. Where is the fog in this picture taken just after the accident (warning: click at your own discretion): http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/ ... norail.jpg You do know that if going faster than they should, the Monorails stop themselves right? It's called overspeed. In the curve and through the station (concourse in the case of that night) the Monorails are only allowed to go 15MPH. Anything faster than that would have stopped Pink before it ever got near Purple. Pink had plenty of time going around the curve and into the station to stop itself if it was going too fast. Even in "collision override mode."

I am just running by the information I was told over the coming days after the accident. Not saying that Disney has no fault whatsoever in this tragedy, but what I am saying is that many, many things went wrong in order for this wreck to occur. This is the first monorail accident in the history of Disney World, but it took a lot of supporting factors for this to happen.

Is it? I'm gonna have to fact check that one.

Actually, it is not the first accident. The first death from a Monorail accident, yes but not the first accident.

That would be correct.
There were a few incidents with the monorail in years past. In 1974 there was a small collision involving two trains. There was the Monorail Silver fire in 1985 which led to increased fire safety and evacuation measures. In 1991 a tractor was hit by a train while filming a commercial and in 1996 there was a fire on board one train pulling into the MK station.

As for the foggy conditions, I think that is implying to the fog that develops on the monorail windscreens and mirrors due to the humidity.

We can try this out here, but as we're not the investigators officially working this case none of us can the full information in order to make any final judgement as to what truely went wrong and who's to blame. We have some of the facts, not all. As far as is it Disney's fault or not - that will be probably in the end be determined by a court. This will not be a clear-cut case in court, given varied opinions expressed so far in this thread.
