A slight change to the stream
I have set up the stream to not display the title of the track in the player. I'm a big fan of having the title in the stream, but we have had too many problems with stream rippers. This should detour ripping from the stream. I'm sorry for the inconvenience but I felt it was necessary.
You can always see what's playing on
http://www.subsonicradio.com/station/now_playing.php
http://www.subsonicradio.com/station/no ... dalone.php
http://www.subsonicradio.com/station/current_song.php
Many people have set up their desktop in windows XP to show the Now Playing standalone page in a window.

Yeah, listening wise, it doesn't matter. But to rippers they'll get one big long track with the name "Subsonic's Disney Theme Park Audio & Music - www.subsonicradio.com"

Come on.. ! It does affect listening.
Most of the time I don't even use the "now playing" page. I bookmarked the station in winamp, and I generally tune in. Whenever I was interested in what I was hearing, I just gave a quick look at my taskbar.
It made life so easy. Now, I have to keep an Explorer window open along with winamp. The new "current song" page takes huge amount of screen space even when resized to the minimum...
And besides, when there's a main server error, you must refresh it since it gets stuck.
There will always be rippers, it's not that hard to extract the song title from the the web page, you know.
Sorry for bitching so loudly... I just hate it when the good guys get it because of the bad guys. 8)

I look at my winamp as well when I want to know the name of the track playing. I also found myself wanting to know who makes a request of certain songs. That's when I need to go to the now playing page.
Again, I also gave a link to the current track playing (so it's not a big long list). And if you're running XP you can set that page to your desktop(desktop window) and don't need to keep it open in your browser.

In XP (This is actually pretty cool)
1) Right Click on your desktop
2) Choose Properties
3) Select the "Desktop" tab
4) Click on "Customize Desktop"
5) Select the "Web" tab
6) Click "New"
7) Put in the location http://www.subsonicradio.com/station/current_song.php
8) Click "Okay"
9) Play around with the properties to your liking

Thanks for the explanation for setting the current_song page in the Xp Desktop.
Personnaly i prefer looking the title in winamp and then going in the now_playing page to look what's going next.
But i understand that stupid ripper have to be "punish".
I have found a "system" on a french WebRadio(Frequence 3) that could help u. Indeed they display alternatively about every 30 sec in the "winamp title bar "
1)°"Artist-Title-Website Adress-"Text" of the radio (don't know how to tell that in english but for subsonic it would be "subsonic's disney audio and music")
2)°"Name of the radio-"Text" of the radio"
3)" Comming next: title.radio name-"text" of the radio"
Hope it could help you, because in that case rippers would have 30 sec tracks with stupid name and even if they join the 30 sec tracks, they would have manually to extract from the last 30 sec track what's from the song n°1 and what from the song n°2
Sorry for my bad english and Grats if you understand what i mean

stream ripping (or ripping for short) is recording off streaming radio. for instance, I am listening to SubsonicRadio on my computer. I have a program on my computer that takes that stream and converts it into smaller, individual mp3 tracks for myself. It's no longer streaming radio, but tracks stored on my computer (like any other mp3).GoofyInOhio wrote:Sorry for my stupidity here, but what is ripping?
