I have been following this business very closely, and I have to say, I am surprised they did not take action sooner. One thing is for sure, they were true to their word about giving the current board a chance to do what they promised and make things right. I am not, however, a blanket believer in Roy and everything he says. We have to remember that Roy was passed over by Walt many years ago. I do indeed think that Roy should be more involved and even possibly running the board at the current time. I don't think the last decade would have been nearly as bad had it been Roy as chairman of the board and Eisner as CEO.

What I cannot believe is the complete disregard for the shareholders after the 2004 meeting. That was completely unacceptible. I also think the SEC needs to reform their proxy rules, but that is for a later discussion.

i have to admit I try to distance myself from the business end of Disney...

Me too, but it's hard to ignore when you're such a big fan. Kinda ruins some of the magic, doesn't it?

I think a very interesting position to be in during this battle would be an hourly Cast Member. My friends at WDW who aren't salaried almost all side with Roy Disney, while a large percentage of salaried and management Cast Members agree with Eisner (for obvious reasons). From what I hear, this topic is strictly taboo at work, with disciplinary action taken against any Cast Member who is overheard discussing it.

Wow. I have only spoken to a few ex-cast members about the issue, and they side with Roy Disney. I don't know anyone in the higher positions though.

When I was at Disneyland on May 5th, Eisner showed up, and of course a lot of people were booing him. It kinda put a damper on the celebration, but guests said he deserved it.

I guess that's the beauty of forums likes these, to open up dialogue and such.

I don't think any Disney fan likes things like this to happen, but it's a necessary evil, I think, in order to try to get things done, back to the original way of thinking. Will it change anything? Time will tell. But the higher up's needs to be held accountable and I think that is what Roy is saying. I try to read as much as I can, but my information is limited to SaveDisney.com and what they post. Let's just hope the outcome of all of this makes Disney a better company for everyone involved. I would like to see the hourly cast members make more than you can at Target or Wal-Mart!! I mean come on, does Eisner really need those millions!!!! Its the same way in the airline biz, the big wigs make the big bucks and we front line ticket counter, gate agents, your first line of defense and first impressions of the carrier start out at $10.00 an hr if you are lucky! Hummmm, does Eisner & his family get free unlimited entry to the parks for life???? Can you imagine seeing him in line buying a park-hopper pass!

Just in case people were wondering about how this is progressing...

The Walt Disney Corporation filed a motion to dismiss this almost immediately after the suit was filed. Yesterday, Judge Chandler denied the motion saying the matter will go to trial. It is being expedited and should start in August. BTW, Chandler is the same judge hearing the Ovitz case.

Joint Statement from The Walt Disney Co. and Roy E. Disney and Stanley P. Gold

BURBANK, Calif. (July 8, 2005) -- The Walt Disney Company, Roy E. Disney and Stanley P. Gold announced today that they have agreed to put aside the differences that have characterized their relationship over the past several years. Messrs. Disney and Gold have agreed not to run a rival slate of directors or submit shareholder resolutions for the next five years. Messrs. Disney and Gold have also agreed to dismiss all their pending lawsuits against the Company. In reestablishing ties with him and his family, the Company has named Roy E. Disney Director Emeritus and a consultant. The Company also reaffirmed its commitment to the rotation of committee members and chairpersons on its Board committees as currently required by the Company's Corporate Governance Guidelines. In putting aside their differences, the Company noted Mr. Disney's long time devotion to the Company and welcomed the reestablishment of a relationship with him and his family. Messrs. Disney and Gold expressed confidence in Mr. Iger's leadership, and as Mr. Eisner retires after 21 years with the Company, they acknowledged his contribution to the Company over the years.

as a major stockholer ($17,000) in stocks adding up since i was child

i have seen some stockholder meetings shall we say out of hand and to the point of shouting matches.... i just go now for the free room and gifts
and put on my tunes to drown out the conflickts . sometimes its almost as bad as the floor of congress on a apointment hearing

i can understand that alot of people hate eisner and want a disney running things again . but i can also see how eisner took the company into the next generation. do i want eisner to go yes and know. do i want roy to run the company again yes and no . can both the disneys and the ceo of wdw inc. get along and run things yes i do believe they can
