Pirates of the Caribbean ~ Lengthy refurbishment

Post by Amy » Feb Tue 24, 2015 8:02 pm

Anyone else catch the fact that Pirates will be down from early May until late September? Looks like the newer boats on the old ride track are causing some concerns as well as some of the boats taking on water. This might explain some of the delays JenMuse experienced in the attraction on her last visit.

I noticed last May that we got quite wet on the hill. The members of my family that were sitting on the edge got similarly wet to sitting in one of the further back rows on Splash Mountain. I thought it was odd, but assumed it was either poor memory on my part or an odd weight distribution in our boat that day. I hate to see it down all summer, but at least they're fixing it before it's too major of a problem (hopefully). Plus, no matter when you go, I think it's reasonable to expect that at least one attraction will be closed for refurb.

It's driving me crazy how all of the articles are going on about it closing due to "safety concerns". I understand that there are some things they need to fix, but do people really think Disney would be letting the ride continue running from now until May if safety was truly a problem?

It's funny, the last time I was there a couple months ago I got soaked on Pirates! A small wave literally came over and dumped on me! I will miss Pirates as well for a short time, but I'm sure it'll be better than ever! I will ride again in a couple weeks when I head up again :-)

I am curious to see if there will be any noticeable changes or if it will all be the "invisible" stuff like the track.

I had the same experience in January! Glad to learn it wasn't my imagination.

I think I got more wet on Pirates my last trip in June 2014, than I did on Splash mountain!! Glad to hear they are trying to fix things! I also got to sit in a big puddle of water as soon as we boarded for our first ride, maybe this will help that as well.

I've heard that it is pretty much all mechanical stuff being fixed. They may try to sneak in a "plus" somewhere...but I just don't know what they could do unless they do some kind of personalized response by Jack Sparrow based on your MB or maybe even your appearance the way Mr. Potato Head does in the TSMM queue.
