Sorcerer's Hat being removed from HS?

Post by cousininmiami » Oct Fri 24, 2014 11:12 am

I have heard some rumors that the Sorcerer's Hat is going to be removed from Hollywood Studios. Has anyone else heard about this yet? Do you think it true? If so, what would go in it's place?

No idea if it is true but I have noticed a re-emphasis of the Earful Tower on some Disney promotional material (check out, for instance, this Instagram post from runDisney just today: http://instagram.com/p/uicbMdon_-/). My hope would be that nothing would go in its place, and upon walking into the park you'd get a nice view down Hollywood Blvd. of the Chinese Theater facade.

There are two reasons the Hat won't go away.

1) It is a covered area for merchandise...particularly pin trading.

2) It serves as a stage area for live shows...which draw huge crowds and help keep crowd numbers evenly disbursed throughout the park.

If they can figure out how to accomplish those two things while removing the Hat...then it will go away.

If some of the things that are rumored to be coming to the studios do become reality (Star Wars Land, expanded Pixar Place), I can see the hat going away. Jim Hill also put out the possibility of the Great Movie Ride being replaced, which could be a whole makeover for the hat and the theater.

yeah...I've heard Jim Hill's thoughts and I'm hoping at least 50% of them happen

as much as I would hate seeing Echo Lake go away...replacing it with an actual themed area (Tatooine) would be a HUGE upgrade

I had read that the hat was possibly going away...don't know how I feel about that! Would be ok if they used the area for something really cool though!! update: I thought the hat had been there the whole time the park has been open. I didn't realize that it was added later on, I'm actually ok with them removing it now!

I remember a post I posted somewhere on this site last year talking about this happening at the end of 2014. It is good news indeed. The hat was so misplaced with all of the iconic hollywood buildings that line the street up to Great Movie Ride. Now the view will be what it was meant to be

And 3) The attraction behind it hasn't had major content updates, ever and it is a weak showing.

Given all the rumors from multiple sources, I tend to believe the hat will go. I'm really curious to see what Disney will do with the Studios. It looks like there will be the old Hollywood that never existed but always was, Pixar place, star wars land and the animation courtyard. It seems to cover a wide range and makes me wonder how they will pull it all together. But then, how do a fairytale castle, pirates, space mountain and the old west fit together in the magic kingdom and nobody (including me) questions that.

Maybe it's that magic word "land" tacked on to the end of the name for each area that binds them together.

This is very good news. I was fine with the hat, it just belonged over in the animation courtyard rather than in front of the Chinese Theater.

I too didn't mind the hat, just the placement. It's been there so long, I can't imagine the Studios without it. But the big question is "Replace with...?" I can't wait to see the plans for the new Hollywood Adventure.

I'm all for the moving of the hat. I liked the Earful tower being the landmark for MGM Studios and was sort of sad when it was displaced with the Sorcerer's Hat for DHS.
