That's what I'm told :-) I remember him saying a little about it as I grew up, since that was almost 10 years before I was born. But my Grandma was never shy to tell any passerby while we were there lol.

Do you remember what people's reactions were? I would be curious if most would take the time to listen or just dismiss it because they didn't want to take the time, or they didn't believe her.

Just call it "The Studios" and you will be covered.

MGM is in Las Vegas...I've been there and seen it...and lost some money. ;)

Gah see!! DHS = medical procedure or Dept of Homeland Security. Lame!

I like whoever said "The Studios". Sounds classy.

Everyone refers to it as "DHS" here, since health has really nothing to do with what they do...if anything they make you ill! So I will never use that reference for "MGM Studios", but I think I could get used to calling it, "The Studios".

I'm working on it :) Have to remember that MGM just happened to be the corporation that owned it at the time, and has nothing to do with Disney. Just so many memories from that era!

She was in her mid-80's at that time must were acted genuinely interested. But never know hehe. Or just being polite. I never remember them looking at me for confirmation but most just listened and provided compliments.

Actually I remember one time in like for food, she blurts out "I'm so hungry my stomach thinks my throats been cut", one of her favorite sayings lol as well as "I'm so hungry I could eat the south end of a north bound skunk." As for the previous several people just whipped their head around and stared at her. I don't know if the parents were horrified or just wondering. Took the CM member several seconds to realize what she meant and then laughed. Saying that she never heard such a thing. While my grandmother was eager to relate her growing up in the country. She was a hoot even if sometimes uncomfortable lol.

My Papa used to say that all the time... "I'm so hungry my stomach thinks my throat's been slit" and then laughing because he thought he was hilarious. I've heard the skunk expression, too, and it makes me laugh and cringe both at the same time!

Today, I say "I'm so hungry I'd eat liver and lima beans."

I've heard those sayings as well. Never really thought about how they would sound to someone not familiar with them

Yikes! I had to look back at what thread I was reading  And yes, I have heard that saying before. Growing up in a small country setting, with one parent that grew up in the south, I reckon I've heard a lot of sayings that people could come up with

I still refer to it as MGM with my wife once in a while. It took me awhile to accept the name change to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Now I just call it The Studios.

I remember the TV park opening special. Actually watched it online the other day. I was a kid when it was Disney-MGM Studios...but it's still engrained in my head when I go there. I remember the Sorcerery in the Sky fireworks show set to movie theme music and the giant Sorcerer Mickey inflating behind the Chinese Theater. So cool.
