Carousel of Progress
I just got back from WDW, they had carousel of progress and people mover closed due to construction! My question is this, does anyone know if COP is closed forever? There have been rumors that they were going to close it, anyone have any info. ? I hope they don't close it!!!!!
Re: Carousel of Progress
AFAIK, CoP is going to open again. They would not close it without warning - there'd be a revolt!
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

20 people is not a revolt.
They probably will return, it's not unheard of for Disney to do the "it's going in for repairs" only to remove the signs for the attraction overnight. Even though they are not popular compared to better (zing!) rides, they are also much cheaper to operate since they have minimal staff requirements.

Re: Carousel of Progress
I think they are probably just refurbishing it, but it sounds like it might be down for quite a lengthy time as well as the Peoplemover. Unlike Wizzard there are a lot of guests who like CoP and would indeed miss it if it disappeared all together!

20 out of the annual population that visit is not a lot.
Even though it is cheap to run, it is also very low ranked on the repair list so I would not be surprised if major repairs can stay for months.

Yeah...CoP isn't going anywhere anytime soon because it is cheap to operate and it helps regulate crowds. In the summer, it's a cool place to rest (and take a nap).
Not to mention...what would you replace it with? Look at the other replacement attractions in Tomorrowland...they aren't all that great and without corporate sponsorship I don't see changes coming anytime soon.

Re: Carousel of Progress
Replacing it with a bag of rock would be an improvement to the area.
But yeah, the possibility of the demise would only be if they were doing a larger scale project where multiple attractions would be losing their spaces. Such as where rocket rods took over the old peoplemover platform and the circlevision theater.

Yeah...there would have to be an entire overhaul to Tomorrowland for CoP to be removed. That could happen within the next decade...just depends on what strategy TDO wants to go with.

I think I know what I might have to do with my lucky money stash ~ buy the CoP if it ever goes on the auction block!theBIGyowski wrote:Yeah...there would have to be an entire overhaul to Tomorrowland for CoP to be removed. Knowing Disney's history of selling stuff, you would get the crap that had no use to the company and the only other option for it was the dump.
