I don't think it's just the narrator/script change that's bad. The music used to be far superior imo.

I thought the music is pretty much the same...except for the exclusion of Tomorrow's Child on the descent ~ I do miss that song!

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the entire ride has had its music replaced.

I know for a fact like beginning music has changed and that the Renaissance scene was changed to more of an operatic chorus.

yes...the musical score is 100% different in the 2007 (current) version

I think both scores (the last two) are fantastic...and may give the edge to the Irons version...but only slightly

the current version is more uplifting...and the previous version is a little more "grand" and has more mood swings

Hmmm, I'll have to have a listen to them back to back. I guess I notice the ambient sounds more when I am listening. I do love the music that plays where Michelangelo is painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling though ~ that is beautiful!

I enjoy both of the musical scores my self. Irons was better in my opinion though. No matter what, I'll still keep on riding SSE =)

See, that's actually where I get most upset by the change, ha. I liked the old instrumental "Renaissance" way more than the sort of monk-like chorus they have now. I'll save my moaning monks for Stave Church :)

Mr.ToadWildRider wrote:I think it's a combination of both script and the reader. The script is obviously not the best, but Dench's inflections at certain points just sound wrong. She reads the script too fast, almost tersely, which is off putting. Combined with her more light hearted tone it just sounds like someone trying to get through the script as fast as possible.

The change in script definitely made the attraction lose some of its grandeur, but it's surely also partly Dench's fault. A key example of it actually being the narrator is compare Dench to Irons in the "Like a grand and miraculous spaceship, our planet has sailed through the universe of time. And for a brief moment, we have been among its many passengers." opening; it's the exact same line both use but Dench's reading is just very shallow sounding. And I guess that's what I'm ultimately feeling when I hear it- Irons' reading has depth while Dench's is just this shallow, hollow, reading.
perfectly said!!! I also miss the ending of the script & ride "will it all end up babble?" so, so true.

I miss they was Jeremy Irons said: "The mighty Roman empire bridged three continents with a vast system of roads; the fastest information highways the world had ever known. East, west, north, and south - all roads led to Rome."
