It looks like Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom is closing intermittently is September. These are the dates:
September 3 to September 5 2013
September 10 to September 12 2013
September 23 to September 26 2013
I wonder what they are doing?

Probably just a refurb...although maybe they are doing some sort of holiday overlay like in DL?

I'll second that motion ~ my last trip through space was enough to rattle all my vertebrae

There was no holiday overlay in space mountain at DL last year... unless I totally missed it.
To me it seems like just minor refurbs and work. Any word on how the Peoplemover will operate during this timeframe? That may help clarify some things. As for smoothing it out, I enjoyed it just the way it was. I did omega in May and Alpha last June. To me they seemed fine. However, I like my roller coasters rough and enjoy being tossed around.

Yeah, wait until you're 45 like me... your body won't respond very well to being tossed hither and yon while strapped in.

Yup, the drops and bumps were a bit rough the last few trips I made hurtling through space. Poor NaCler was in front of me and probably got tired of me saying "oof!!" and "owww!!" after every little bump. I had to contribute a little bit of the discomfort to my advancing age, but some of the the track just seemed downright cruel to any age.

I stopped riding Space Mtn, Everest, Rockin Roller, Star Tours, and Mission Space a couple years ago. As I have gotten older (but not old by any means

), I get ever so slightly nauseous and I do not like my brain getting slammed around! I am perfectly happy relaxing, shopping, eating/drinking, and taking pictures!
I think the refurb during that time is probably best, as it's the slowest time of the year by far. The weather here in Florida is hot, rainy, and very humid! Not to mention that we are most likely in one of the dreaded 'Cones of death'

(a hurricane watch, warning or hopefully not a real hurricane) So not a bad time of year to shut stuff down!

The holiday overlay runs from mid Sept. to 10/31, so if you were there then you missed it.

Oh no. It appears that at least part of the work will involve trim brakes being added along the track with the aim of reducing the speed during parts of the ride. The exact reasons for this are not clear, but typically trim brakes are added for safety purposes, to reduce g-forces, or to reduce wear and tear on the track and vehicles.
They are reducing the speed of the ride in places. I'm glad I was able to ride it this year

I wonder how much you can tell though...because you are in the dark. You really don't go that fast at all on Space Mountain...it just feels like you do because of the dark. It is even more intense when riding in the very front where if feels like you are going 50+ mph.

I have never gotten to experience Ghost Galaxy. Just by reading the description on Wikipedia it sounds really neat

It is, aside from the different ride projections they also projection map the exterior of the building at night so that various "shows" occur.
The only reason that we even got the attraction was because HKDL has the same layout so they were able to transfer It over with ease.
