Did anyone else see the news article about the Ohio University Storytelling class? They took a week long trip to WDW to end their course. I can only imagine how fun that class would have been. I can also only imagine trying to explain that class as a necessity to my parents although the tuition did seem pretty good since it included the trip.

This one quote did catch my eye:

"We rode the Amazing Spider-man ride, and they let us ride the ride with the lights on so we could see the technology,” she said. “We then rode it again with lights off. This helped us to see how they pull off the feeling that you’re falling and other special effects.”

I went back and reread the article a few times to see if they went to Universal but it sure doesn't mention them including that in their trip, unless it was part of the

"...in addition to taking a three-hour Disney Youth Education Series course on creativity and leadership, the group got several behind-the-scenes tours and other special treatment."

Looks like the professor needs to include the importance of park distinction in the next class

I did go ahead and take a peek through their blog ~ and apart from some atrocious misspellings and horrible grammar, they did seem to go to Universal. I think the article should have maybe mentioned that tidbit. Or am I too sensitive to people mixing up the Florida parks?

You're a serious Disney-phile and as such, can't quite understand how someone could get Universal and WDW confused. I think most of us would agree that it's a preposterous confusion. However, to the undiscerning public, one amusement park is as good as the next.

Not that I agree, but it IS how people think.

I wonder what major this type of class would be under? My first guess would be English but the grammar is very bad in the article. Maybe Psychology

My guess would be some kind of media studies/communications class. (Not all comm majors can write.) Could even be education, art, theatre, or museum studies, come to think of it. It's hard to say.

It sounds like a special topics-type of class that the professor designed to go for broke, so it may not even be a regularly recurring thing on the course schedule.

I remember grading lab reports from juniors and seniors whose writing was horrible. When their grades reflected their poor scientific writing skills (which, I don't care what anyone says, start with writing skills) the prof would do things like tell me to curve the whole class upward 10%. Page full of fragments? Oh, Mikey was just having a bad day. Three or four paragraphs copied from the book with bad grammar thrown in to try halting the plagiarism checker? Looks original enough, and hey, you were a student once too, right? Any time someone starts talking about college student writing I start getting flashbacks.

Wow ~ that would have been hard to take. I had some hard teachers and professors and while I might not have always appreciated my grade, I knew I had received what I had earned. If I thought the grade wasn't good enough, you better believe I tried harder the next time. It doesn't seem like today's generation of students is always getting that same sort of education

It really depends on the major. Some majors are pretty wasteful like communications and textile management. They offer even a general studies major
From just graduating from engineering, the department had problems but was good overall
