My Disney Experience VS Mobile Magic Apps

I see that Disneyworld released a new native app for Android (presumably for iPhone too) called My Disney Experience. Fortunately, it shows up as "Disney World" in the menu after install, as I would never remember where to find it under "M". Comparing it with the former app, Mobile Magic, it looks like the best new feature is the ability to view the ride wait times. You have to log into your Disney online account but once you do that you can see Fast Pass return times too. Neat. I think the Verizon app has had this for some time. Nice to see them letting us all use it.

Anybody else try it? I will test it out in the Studios next week.

I have it...but haven't really used it since I haven't been to the parks since they launched it. You'll have to let us know how it works out for you.

I saw that mousewait now has a WDW app, I am wondering if someone local to there has tried it and can compare it. At DLR it works great with good population of users to provide data.

I downloaded the My Disney Experience too, but haven't really looked at it since. The ability to check out fastpass return times could be very handy. If you can look and see that they are all out, or the return time will be after when you can use them, you can save yourself some rushing to get one!
I'll have to see which Mousewait I have ~ must be the DL one if WDW just came out as I haven't downloaded one recently.
I didn't use the apps much on our past trips. Mostly because I forgot I had them but also because the wait times were a bit sketchy on accuracy. The one thing that really worked well, was people were pretty good about reporting an attraction as being closed. That saved me a few trips across Animal Kingdom when I was trying to ride Expedition Everest.

The apps are kind of silly, at least for DLR AP holders. When they are most accurate is when there are the most people in the parks. When the most people are in the parks is also when I am the least likely to go.

I used both apps on my iPhone back in January. I found them both incredibly slow to load and serious drainers of battery power. And like Wiz posted, I was there during off season when the wait times were apt to be less anyways.

I don't think I got much out of the apps, particularly since I had already put all my reservations on my iPhone calendar.

Just 4. I was also taking a ton of pictures in New Fantasyland though.

Might have been that but I suspect that it is simply just what happens when older phones run apps "optimized for iPhone 5". It will drag on older models but work great on the latest one.

Installing the new app now and I will try it out next week. I didn't really use the Mobile Magic app that much, but when I did I liked it. With being able to look at ride times I am starting to wonder if Disney is heading to where the fastpass+ can be used to reserve a ride time on your mobile phone.

I thought that was the expressly stated point of the mobile app? The combo of being able to have easier to drill down data with the possible benefit of being able to entice people away from 3rd party hotels.

They even were able to get past one of the major hurdles of what to do with international guests since data rates are obscene. I did not expect them to give free Wi-Fi, since it is like pulling teeth to get most moderate (or higher) chain hotels to even give it for free. The only final limitation is that market penetration of smart phones is still lower than dumb (aka "feature") phones. That and what to do with people who are using non-compatible hardware such as old iphones or the plethora of Android devices.

I wonder, since the apps only report times, do they have any meaningful impact on the visit? If a person just went from ride to ride as they pleased and the other went off of information provided by the app, would the one who used more data be benefited with more rides or would it all just cancel out?
