Does Old Key West have a "smell"? I'm pretty sure it does as it just smells so dang good! An almost rain-soaked palm tree type smell. ......or that could just be the generic smell of Florida for all I know.

Did you buy one of the shingles to eat? I'm not a gingerbread fan, but I heard they were quite tasty.MetalRage wrote:I really was and I really wanted to eat the Gingerbread houses!Amy wrote:Were you there during Christmas smelling the gingerbread houses?!

The GF gingerbread shingles with the chocolate back are amazing. It's a European recipe, so the gingerbread is softer and less sweet than what most people are used to, but I think they're great. We always have a few boxed up to take home with us.

Europeans normally let their dough sit for extended periods of time?
They did a thing about the dough several years ago and to make enough for display and selling they start in fall/late summer and add in everything that won't spoil and let it sit for 3-4 months. It won't go bad due to the large quantity of honey, but it is odd they would have it started so far in advance.

The amount of baking time probably is the biggest reason.Wizzard419 wrote:Europeans normally let their dough sit for extended periods of time?

It was inside some interactive thing that guests could look around in and learn facts about food and stuff. But I distinctly remember it smelling like artificial chocolate....like...a plasticy chocolate smell if you can imagine that.
I like that... Plasticy chocholate...

It was actually for hydration and to not have to tie up the equipment. While they make a lot of the stuff for display, individual cookies, and small houses, it isn't that much when you consider how much other baking goes on at their central bakeshop.cy1229 wrote:The amount of baking time probably is the biggest reason.Wizzard419 wrote:Europeans normally let their dough sit for extended periods of time?
