Epcot - Ice Station Cool

Does anyone in the know happen to know what the deal is with Ice Station Cool? They recently shut it down with a message that it was being refurbished "for the future of Epcot", or somesuch thing. Are they taking it out completely? Or just redoing it to... say... find a new way to make the floor not-so-sticky? I'd really hate to see that place go. It was one of my favorite places to take a break.

7 June 2005: Ice Station Cool rehab

Ice Station Cool is now closed to begin a 6 month refurbishment. The Ice Station theme will be removed, :( and will be replaced with something more in keeping with it's location next to Innoventions.

It definetly sticks out but as long as they keep all those nasty tasting sodas from around the world and the Han Solo frozen-in-carbonite-kind-of-temperatures in the area, then I don't mind a theme change.

So does that mean it'll still be a drinks-from-around-the-world station? Or something altogether new?

Like Quickgold said, I'm all for a theme change (The "stuck to the floor" motif wasn't doing much for me), but the concept of trying drinks from around the world was very cool, and they weren't ALL bad. Except for that one that taste like licking the toilet rims in Frontierland. That one actually made my stomach cramp up.

And thanks for the info!

You... you... you've never been to Ice Station COOL?!?!?!

I'll dig up some pictures for you (there's one of the outside that I liked to in the first post, if you missed it), but it's basically a room sponsored by Coca-Cola that features sodas from around the world. I think they puposefully use the nastiest soda they can find so that people won't hang out inside too long, but some of them aren't bad. I think I have a picture of the fountains, so I'll see if I can find 'em. :D

Ahh...

Yes, I did see the picture.

There's the Coke museum in Las Vegas that I've been to. You can taste sodas from around the world as well. Yes, some are bad.

I remeber that, most of them tasted crap, but one was pretty nice, can't
remember the name.

Annoying the fact that they were coca cola cups, but no free coke! :(

I've heard of that one! This one isn't nearly as grandiose from what I understand, but it's still a great place to stop when it's 102 degrees outside and you need a quick cool-down. I wish I had a picture of the frozen caveman reaching for a Coke, though. :)

Close up of the fountain

View of the weird planet display

Psycho people who would kill you to get to the free drinks if not for the fact that they're stuck to the floor

I guess you should enjoy them while you can. :)

The one from Italy is the drink I keep trying to catch people drinking it for the first time on video. Most of them start coughing and gagging, and it makes for great footage between clips transitions. :D

I think the soda from Mexico was the best.

I believe the Italy one is called "Beverly" it tastes horrible.

The ice chamber walkthrough was great when you were hot. Think of an ice chipper and blower system shooting small pieces down from the ceiling. It was nice and cold, had ice all over the floor, and you got hit by a decent amount of it as you walked/ran through.

It was out of place though, but it was a good advertising method as you weren't likely to forget it, or the free drinks afterwards.
