That, and they generally don't teach students younger than jr. high about major disasters like this, because kids get worried easier at that age.Wizzard419 wrote:Probably not, considering that they have more standarization in education and stuff like that is a litte bit more on the fringe. For example, the Lucitania sinking is more likely to get covered than the Titanic since it was directly related to the war.

They don't do that kid's holocaust book anymore or the one about the Johnstown flood (though that one is whitewashed so that the dead people are still there but the cause of the flood is omitted)

That looks a lot more like it would be flying over Avatarland than Fantasyland...dstrawn9889 wrote:http://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/ava ... eature.htm
this is what they are talking about... it is an ultralight, crewed, and the edges of the wing are designed to flutter ...
as you can see... it hangs from an inflated wing parachute

I was thinking ultra-light at first but couldn't see the chute so I was thinking John Denver Death Plane. Yeah, we won't be seeing these at DLR due to high winds during parts of the year and not a lot of real estate to get off the ground from.

It's not really flying, so much as falling with style.Amy wrote:That looks a lot more like it would be flying over Avatarland than Fantasyland...dstrawn9889 wrote:http://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/ava ... eature.htm

Amy, when these were being tested early this year, the rumor was that it was for Avatar land. I think they will use them for both with these being the early testers. They will be tweaked and improved by then I'm sure.

That does raise an interesting question, like hang gliders, the powered 'chutes usually rely on thermals created by solar heating of the earth (along with the fan strapped to their back). What will happen when they do it at night? While there will be heat still coming off the earth, it won't be nearly as high as when it's done during the day.

Re: Soft Openings before new Fantasyland
well, that not-withstanding, why would they fly after dark, owing to the fact that they would be difficult to see. you would have to employ more cast and a few HPS searchlights to show them off... as that would be even more cost-prohibitive than flying her during the day.

For the same reason that Tinkerbell/blue fairy flies after dark and why everything is painted black in dark rides, so you can't see the mechanisims that make it work.

I wonder if the safety concerns shouldn't outweigh the effect of seeing dragons in the dark.Wizzard419 wrote:For the same reason that Tinkerbell/blue fairy flies after dark and why everything is painted black in dark rides, so you can't see the mechanisims that make it work.

This is WDW, where guest desires always outweigh workers' concerns for life and limb.
I know you can jump in the dark, and things are hopefully lit up enough to not have them slamming into a building.

Well yeah. I can ride my bike in the dark, too. Doesn't mean I should. But I know what you mean.Wizzard419 wrote:This is WDW, where guest desires always outweigh workers' concerns for life and limb.

NEVER . Can you believe it??? Something really wrong with that and I intend on rectifying this as soon as possible! Actually, the only time I remember anyone in my family riding Dumbo was during my first trip to WDW and my Dad took my 3 yr old niece. I truly think it meant more to him than to her...I'm betting there were tears in his eyes up there over Fantasyland . Oh how he loved Disney!Amy wrote:You've never been on Dumbo???Sharonofwindham wrote:I can wait...I don't want ANY construction walls to ruin my view the first time I lay eyes on the New FantasyLand. I especially want the 7 Dwarves to be open...it's the one attraction I am most looking forward to. Fantasyland has never been a fav of mine as far as the attractions go. I love the caroussel of course...it's gorgeous. LOVE Philharmagic! All the others I go on occasionally when I visit but don't always make an effort...depends on my mood, or who is in our group. I practically live in FTL, AL, and LS in that order. For the most part I think Fantasyland is nicely geared toward the little ones...nothing too scary, no BIG drops, or fast coasters. But with all that said, I can't wait to....
1) Experience Dumbo for the first time in my life (love the water feature).
2) Eat at, Be Our Guest.
3) Experience the Seven Dwarves Mine ride
4) Enjoy the architecture, and beauty of the landscaping.
I'm most looking forward to the Seven Dwarves Mine Ride as well. Something about the swinging cars intrigues me

Finally got to eat at Gaston's. The pork shank is better than most of the pork dishes at sit down restaurants at WDW (and a lot more meat on it, too!). I wasn't expecting much for $7.99 but I now have a new favorite place to eat for counter service at MK, that's for sure!

How does it compare to the turkey leg? That is what I've seen the pork shank compared to a lot on different blogs.MadEye wrote:Finally got to eat at Gaston's.
