Wishes fireworks "sounds"
So here's the story: While at our vacation villa in Kissimmee (located behind the Medieval Times on 192), I SWEAR I could hear the 10 PM Wishes fireworks show. My husband says "no way" that is possible. On our last night, I definitely heard distinct "booms" a few minutes after 10. What else could it be but Wishes? Obviously at a few minutes after 10 it would NOT be Illuminations. It could conceivably be Fantasmic IF DHS were running two shows that night but at this time of the year that is not normally the case. I know the night we were there there was only an 8:30 show.
So what do you think, SS friends? Is it possible that Wishes is what we were hearing? If not, what could it be?

Unlikely considering the number of miles it would need to travel. By any chance were you there in July?

Probably need MadEye's expertise on this one. I would have to agree that it was from Wishes as there are no other shows at that time.

While the time might be right, it still has to travel about 13 miles (as the crow flies), so can fireworks be heard from that far away?

What else would be causing the distant boom sounds that late at night? They are even farther from Sea World or US and I don't think Legoland does fireworks yet...

Where you anywhere near Arabian Nights the timing would be right for their finale and it has explosions.

No, it was during our trip we just returned from: mid-April to mid-May.Wizzard419 wrote:Unlikely considering the number of miles it would need to travel. By any chance were you there in July?

Looking on the map provided on the Arabian Nights website, my guess would be were roughly as far away from Arabian Nights as we were from WDW.Sleepy90 wrote:Where you anywhere near Arabian Nights the timing would be right for their finale and it has explosions.

I would think sound could travel pretty far in the humid air of Florida. Especially those bigger explosive shells, I think those are salutes or reports??

Amy...I think so too. If you think how loud those sounds are when you are IN the parks, it seems like such a big sound could easily travel to where we were. It was 14 road miles from our villa to Magic Kingdom, but less than 10 miles if you draw a straight line from point A to point B.Amy wrote:I would think sound could travel pretty far in the humid air of Florida. I definitely think it is possible. The nearest train tracks to us are at least 12 miles away and we can hear the train whistles on quiet nights....and those aren't anywhere near as loud as fireworks!DisneyYorkie wrote:Amy...I think so too. Re: Wishes fireworks "sounds"
Lower frequencies travel farther than higher frequencies.
**Nerd Alert!**
As a matter of fact, elephants use sub-sonic (to humans) frequencies to communicate from one family group to another, sometimes over several miles. Now, I know that elephants are big and all, but I seriously doubt they put as much energy behind their low grumbles and other sounds as would be behind one of those very powerful signaling explosions. So, if you think about it, a lot of energy, plus low frequency sound / shock wave, = heard several miles, in this case a dozen or so, away. It's definitely plausible.
