What ride have you conquered that you were afraid of?

Post by DisneyYorkie » Apr Wed 25, 2012 4:32 pm

Ok, we had a thread about rides/attractions you won't go on or do. Mine was Tower of Terror.

But.....

NO MORE!!!!! I did it!!!! And better than that, I LOVED it!!!! It is now one of my favorite rides!

So, what ride have you been afraid of, really afraid of, but you eventually conquered it??

I was terrified of roller coasters until I rode RnR years ago.

Strangely enough, though, I hate drops, but love ToT.

I will post for the DH since he never posts here, just uses his points to play stuff. Anyhoo...

He has always been afraid of heights, and we finally convinced him to go on ToT, and he LIKED IT!!! Mostly... :) No, he really did like it. But it took a LOT of convincing. And maybe a promise of sitting through Philharmagic one more time.

Good for you! That's great that you conquered Tower of Terror :D

One of my students, who went to WDW for the first time over spring break, insisted that he wouldn't ride any of the roller coasters or rides like Tower of Terror. His younger sister told me she was game for anything. I mentioned something to the Mom and she said everyone was going on everything if they were going to be standing in a long line. When they returned, the older said he actually did go on all the attractions and had a good time. They showed me the photo of them on Rock n Roller coaster and both of their expressions were priceless! He said they ended up going on EE about 8 times in a row and he started doing different poses, even Tebowing one time

For years when I was younger, I swore to never ride Space Mountain. The thing is that I loved Big Thunder, ToT, Splash long before I did my first ride on Space...
We are all a little weird
And life's a little weird,
And when we find someone whose
Weirdness is compatible with ours,
We join up with them and fall in
Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”
― Dr. Seuss

That's easy...Space Mountain. I never went on it as a kid, and even as an adult. The only roller coaster I had been on was Big Thunder Mountain. But when my 4 year old made me take him on Splash Mountain on our 2008 trip, I knew I had to gear up for thrill rides in the future. So we went on Space Mountain on the first night of our 2011 trip (we ended up doing it again on the last night). We also did ToT and Rock N Roller Coaster that trip (as well as Splash and BTMRR). We left Everest for our next trip tho!

You will love EE...think of it as BTMRR on steroids! No upside down stuff, just one spiral in the dark (done backwards, which is kind of a strange, disconcerting feeling but over very quickly)!

EE almost feels like it goes upside down because of that backward portion, but I figured with just a lap restraint and no over the shoulder restraint, it must not go upside down

The reason it's so easy to conquer fears of certain rides at WDW is because they do such an amazing job of theming and storytelling that it sugarcoats the thrill part of the ride. Take RnR for example. You're not on a roller coaster that goes upside down...you are on a super-stretch limo that is taking you to an Aerosmith concert. Same for ToT...you're not just dropping...you're in an old hotel that is a portal to the Twilight Zone.

That's funny! When our girls were younger, we would "bribe" them with ice cream treats to ride the scarier rides  My youngest daughter loved the Strawberry Fruit bars, so that is what she got for riding ToT the first time. Me, I like SHINY things, so after I did ToT the first time, I rewarded myself with MY version of a Strawberry Fruit Bar  :

It is a bracelet of multi-colored Mickey head/ears, each one a different color. Just cheap plastic, but sparkles, so I LIKE :D
