Carousel of Progress in need of TLC!

When sitting down in my beloved Carousel of Progress I noticed right in front of me was really looking bad!

So I snapped this picture...

This is to the left of the stage right where the CM picks up the phone to talk. Seriously, this is so un-Disney like to see it looking so beat up and in need of freshening up! How much can a can of paint cost? And maybe some glue to stick the carpeting back down? I don't think Walt would have liked this very much

truly discraceful... i agree thirty bucks in paint to go over these 6 edges... all they would need is maintenance to go in and close one theatre for them to paint while ride is in motion... two or three rotations should be enough for two good coats and touchups...

Oh, that is sad

One of my students that went over spring break said they broke down in this attraction. He said they were in the final 21st century scene and it played about 4 or 5 times through before the CMs would let them leave. He said people were getting up and leaving anyhow...

I wonder if they are going to tear it down/gut it soon? Sometimes when the ride starts to fall into disrepair it's a sign that they are working on a replacement and don't want to invest in it. Though, the low rider numbers probably also impact it's service schedule as well.

I hope they don't take this out!!! (A) it's a Disney classic. That would be like taking out Snow White, 20,000 Leagues, and Small World. Wait...
(B) Selfishly speaking, I want to be able to see it in October.
And can I just say, I'm still bitter about the removal of 20,000 leagues. Which face is the pouty face?

Of course you'll be able to see it, I'm sure they will sell off the parts that aren't going to the archives.

I generally agree but not here. The ride is too famous and too historical to boot. While it might suffer from neglect, I doubt they'll get rid of it unless they completely overhaul Tomorrowland.

I honestly wonder if maybe that is a rare catch and work is scheduled to be done. I know I caught the Midway Mania elevated queue in horrendous shape one day. The paint was peeled and looked horrendous. I went on it again two days later and the stripes were all painted up again with straight lines. This however, looks worse and seriously makes me wonder if CoP is slated to go down for a lengthy refurb.

Well I hope it's not down for a lengthy refurb, but it is in need of one for sure! It needs paint, carpeting and a general fix up. But I don't think they will do it because it's not a "new" ride, they probably think why spend money on something that has a low volume of guests? But what needs to be dome is to re-do the final scene and make it more futuristic with respect to what the future may be now! I noticed part of the dialog in the final scene refers to "now we have Laser Disc players" and that is out dated for sure! Something more in line with the future scenes in the old Horizon's would be a good place to start!

It's really neither of those things though, if it were they would probably have it running all year. If they tore it down, I would put money on a small minority of guests having a problem with it.

well, more than you would think i imagine... most of the rides here at WDW that have been removed have 'sisters' in other parks(and vicy-versy)... CoP does NOT have a legacy position anywhere else in Disney Parks. It is the ONLY ride at WDW with Walts' Fingerprints on it( i mean it is the only ride he personally had interaction with over here on the east coast) and therefore be SACROSANCT <of course without the religous undertones>. all she really needs is some carpeting, a fresh coat of paint... and a less-'fixed point' last show area (darn that sounded better in my head--- a non-datable last show scene, maybe an ultra-condensed horizons showcase)

I actually think a constant refresh to the final scene would be a welcomed idea. Think about it, you're keeping Walt's work pretty much intact and doing something that will attract more potentially larger numbers.

Yes, it's old, it was half of a filler ride they moved from DLR... but time has marched on and that style of attraction doesn't draw people anymore. Even if they kept it updated, I seriously doubt there would be an impact on the rider numbers, and there would still be no sponsor.
