Read this in my All Ears newsletter:
AllEars wrote:A female okapi calf born October 1, 2011, at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is now out with its mother on Kidani Village's Pembe savanna. The calf, named "Makemba" (an African name that means "goddess"), now weighs 187 pounds.
Pretty cool!

Unfortunately, no. I bet one surfaces on a Disney blog sometime, or maybe we can get one of the CM's to go nab one for us.

I'm gonna check it out...hope they have a photo! Not really sure how rare they are in the wild, but you don't see them in video footage of a real savannah. This is really great news

We did the safari today but they didn't mention it. Maybe she wasn't out at the time.

The Cincinnati Zoo used to be world leaders in breeding rare or endangered hooved animals, and they had several okapi. I always thought it looked like God had a bunch of parts from other animals left over and put the okapi together.

Haha...I thought the same thing. It looked like a small child had puzzles of several animals and pieced them together however they wanted...and the okapi is what came out.

I agree.

Kind of like an animal that the Time Bandits might have put together before they were banished to shrubbery.
