Does anyone else feel like WDW shouldn't have changed the old Journey Into The Imagination ride??? what about those colored squares on the floor in Image Works that played sounds and music when you stepped on them? I am so upset they changed it ... the new ride is just not that good. I know Disney has to keep up with the times but I just hope they don't change too much more - those nostalgic rides are what keep me coming back!!

You can thank Kodak for that one. It was their choice to change it since they had sponsorship.

I know the sponsors foot most of the bill... but I wonder how they decide what to change? Do they get imput from the guests? Some change is for the better.. but others are not. for me, the biggest was the Enchanted Tiki room. That annoying voice.......

Nope. Their first re-do of Imagination was so bad that when Eisner rode it for the first time he demanded them to change it to what it is now.

I don't really remember the original, or even the new attraction for that matter. My traveling companion didn't care for the ride, or understant my love of Figment :( . I just loved those crossed eyes  ! Such a sweet little face :) ! I have a great photo somewhere of my first trip to Epcot in '83, of Figment and the man who held him, (can't remember his name at the moment   ).
I'm gonna head on over to Youtube, I'm sure there are videos of both attractions, I hope. I've always been curious since so many people really miss the original ride so much. I just loved everything about Epcot that first visit :D . Everything was absolutely mindblowing  ! It's still my favorite park :hatter_bounce:

I'm not sure if this is entirely accurate, but I heard Eisner was the driving force to remove Figment the first time. The rumor was he always hated him and when Kodak pitched the redo, that was one of his stipulations.

Yet, when they redid it a second time, on Eisner's insistence, Figment returned...

But wasn't that due to such bad feedback received from guests who soft opened the ride?

Of course there was negative feedback from guests but it was a ride by Eisner that was the final nail in the coffin (it was closed that night for the re-do).

Dreamfinder, alas we knew him well (at least some of us). I also miss the upstairs portion of the post-show.

We loved the original Journey into Imagination, but I have to say the kids today will be sad if they change the attraction - they were so excited going thru!

Yes, another fine example of how management painstaking transformed a once-loved attraction into a waste-of-space building it is today...

not a complete waste of space... the façade is really quite striking, and when the early -morning sun reflects back into the reflection pools out front... Beautiful

The building's architecture is great, though I'm no fan of the present color scheme.

When I'm down there, if the walk-around Figment is about, it'll be really hard for me to resist asking him when he ate the Miracle Grow and what happened to Dreamfinder... :figment:
