I've read this on various sites- nothing concrete from Disney though- that Test Track is supposed to be going down for a major overhaul with a possible retheming in 2012, starting in either January or April. I read on more than one site the date pinpointed is 9 January 2012 but like I said, Disney has not clarified. Here's one of the sites-

It'd be nice if it did happen, the ride is in serious need of some adjustments and updating.

Be honest, with CARS land under construction at DCA, I have had a fear they would re-do TEST TRACK to be the "World of Motion with PIXAR's CARS" (like they did "The Living Seas with Nemo and Friends")...

I certainly hope not... I'd almost prefer to go back to World of Motion but we all know that isn't going to happen. I really could take or leave Test Track, honestly. I don't ride it too often mostly because of the idiots who take advantage of the single rider line.

We have seen new car bodies on the track, more modern, but it hasn't shown any signs of the lengthy (and expensive) pixar theme update, which makes sense if a car maker is still footing the bill.

That and pixar/characters are usually only added to existing rides that don't draw in crowds, such as the living seas.

Actually, I think that backfired as far as the Living Seas goes...

Yeah, I don't know that Nemo draws anyone in more than the hydrolator did...although everyone seems to love the Mine - mine- mine seagulls out front quite a lot!

I'm thinking this is a major modernization of the attraction as everything in it is very dated. The refurbished cars that have popped up on the track are a nice little hint IMO of a major refurbishment that is planned.

Do you know if they are running the refurbished cars all the time?

I didn't say it works, I only said they do it to try and fix rides that aren't getting people in the gate.

Test Track will be going down for refurb in April next yer. No it will not be a Cars overlay (thankfully!!!).

On a daily basis.

When I was there they only had one refurbished car and it was not running. It all probably depends on the rotation. However, as more cars get done their sightings will become more frequent.

Thank goodness for that, a Cars theme would just be overkill.

Yeah, that would be terrible if Disney used a franchise with wide market appeal.

While I have always argues that Test Track should have become a TRON ride, a refurbishment in the coming year will do. That ride really needs an overhaul.
