Since we are less than two weeks away from our trip now (

), I have been reading up with my mom and deciding what shows to see, where to go, etc.
I've seen in the books and online that the Mainstreet Electrical Parade has been brought back to the MK.
Is there a difference in it and Spectromagic? Does that mean no Spectromagic parade? That's always been my favorite parade.

Main Street Electrical parade and Spectromagic are indeed different parades. They both have lights and music, floats and characters, but otherwise they are different. You are correct in the fact that there is no Spectromagic parade while the Main Street Electrical Parade is running.

You've never seen the MSEP?! I think you'll like it. You have heard the music right? One of my favorite sections of the parade is Snow White and then Dopey driving the sparkly mine train

I hope you will be able to do a trip report when you return. I'll be interested in hearing what you think about the MSEP!

I definitely plan on trying out making a trip report! That is, if I can remember everything we do!

You guys will definitely see some pictures!

MSEP in the original. I like both of them. Tell us what you think when you come back

If you are a hardcore fan of spectro, then you might not be a big fan of MSEP. The music to MSEP is very catchy but Spectro gives more of that Disney parade feeling, especially with the children singing at the end. The floats are different with MSEP not being as complex given the age. I truly feel that everyone needs to see MSEP in their lifetime. Take this vacation as your opportunity to do just that!

And yet...
MSEP has the largest electrical float (Pete's Dragon) among the two parades. MSEP in its full length (for some reason, floats are removed to make it shorter at WDW) is longer than Spectromagic. And remember, newer and more complex does NOT equal better - the proof of that is the failed Light Magic Streetacular at Disneyland.
You have to judge each electrical parade independently of each other for the experience it gives you while you're watching it. Forget the comparisons and just enjoy it for what it is...

I think what did light magic in, aside from it not being that good and it's odd non-parade format, was that it's predecessor was held in high regards. So you had people comparing it to the old show, even though the two were unrelated.

They are different but for all intents and purposes they are the same. Different floats and such and different music, but the same concept.

Yes, they are very similar. But I'd have to say my fave is MSEP. I just like the floats better... especially the Snow White Mine train and Pete's dragon. Those rock!
