Buying more days instead of getting park hopper...

Ok, back in 2008 I went on a trip for 6 days and bought an 8 day ticket and park hopped on 2 of the days. I was planning on doing something similar on my upcoming trip but I found a recent article online that said that they now prevent you from "park hopping" without an actual PH ticket ( since they know it's cheaper to buy extra days instead of getting a PH upgrade). Is this true? Will cast members prevent you from entering a second park on the same day?

This is true...you cannot use 2 days worth of park tickets on the same day.

TDC has closed almost every single loophole that guests have taken advantage of over the years.

Do you happen to know when that came into affect? (I'm just curious.)

I don't know when it started. It was something I thought about doing a few years ago because my mom gave me a few old tickets from the 90s that had no expiration on them. I was going to use those in case I wanted to park hop...but found out before I left for the trip that I couldn't.

That is a good article. It really spells out how to figure out if the park hopper add-on is worth your while. At the very least it gives you something to think about...any closer to deciding annafab? I imagine it is harder for you since you are deciding for an entire group!

Well, it's virtually out of the question to not go to all 4 parks for my youngest sister and I. lol So, we're probably going to get 3 day park hoppers. It kills me that it's gonna be $60 more per person. I'll have to think of some other way to save some money...

Cut back on a few extra things you do or have while you are at home. That way you can have your park hopper and splurge a bit ~ after all, you're on vacation!

The article referenced above is excellent, specifically in highlighting the fact that a typical 'hop' will take ~60 minutes. The decision to purchase hoppers is certainly dependent on many factors - touring plans, time of year, vacation 'styles', on-property vs. off-property, etc... We always purchase hoppers as we always break in the middle of the day to enjoy a bit of R&R at the resort (we generally stay on-property) before heading to a different park in the late afternoon/early evening - that has been our vacation 'style' at WDW for many trips, and it works for us. Others we know avoid buying hoppers and often spend morning until close at the same park, diverting the extra $$ towards food and souveneirs.

If it weren't for the fantastic food in Epcot (especially compared to the other parks) we probably wouldn't get the park hoppers. It's just nice when you can spend the better part of a day in AK or DHS...and then hop over to Epcot for a nice dinner. Sure it may take 30-60 minutes to get where you want to go...but you're on vacation...enjoy it.

To be honest...I would guess at least half of the time spent hopping is just waiting on the bus/monorail. I know DW and I waited for what felt like an eternity every time we left a park. It is funny how you can wait at your resort for maybe just 10-12 minutes tops for the right bus...but when you are leaving the parks you have to wait 20-30 minutes on your resort's bus. Somewhat of a paradox.
