Disney's Space Mountain shut down after woman found unconscious
By Anika Myers Palm, Orlando Sentinel

A woman was transported to a hospital today after she was found unconscious on the Space Mountain ride at Walt Disney World.
The ride remains closed.
Reedy Creek Emergency Services, which handles medical emergencies for Disney's parks, transported the unconscious 48-year-old woman to Dr. Phillips Hospital about 11:30 a.m.
Her current condition is unknown.
"Our thoughts and concerns are with the guest and her family," said Andrea Finger, a Disney spokeswoman. "We have sent a representative to the hospital to assist them with their needs."
Technicians must complete an inspection of the ride before it is reopened to guests.

Pre-existing health issues. How to tell? It was only one person and not the majority of guests in the vehicle. Still, hope she is ok.

Thank you for posting this. I had not heard. She must have a preexisting condition that she may or may not know about. Space Mountain isn't like Mission Space in intensity, since it is based on gravity, so my thought is something was triggered. Perhaps a TMI or aneurism. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

I read a few other articles and they are starting to state no signs of trauma and seems to be as a result of a medical condition. No matter what it is still very saddening. It is most likely one family's vacation that just took a sour turn.

Sometimes, people can be totally unaware that they do have a possible threatening health issue before doing something particularly strenuous. Not just rides. How many times have we heard of some high school student dying from playing sports because the family was unaware of a congenital heart defect?

Unfortunately, you are more likely to hear about an injury or death after riding a Disney or even a Universal attraction, whether from pre-existing conditions or not, in the national news, than you are a high school student who passes away from a pre-existing condition because of the companies involved (The Walt Disney Company and NBC*Universal).

I found a list on wikipedia (yes, I know... wikipedia  ) but it is quite accurate about the injuries/deaths all over the resort from rides to transportation (read at your own risk):

It's back open today. According to the article, the attraction did not contribute to the woman's condition. Unfortunately no word on her condition either.

Let's hope she has a speedy and full recovery. It's unfortunate it had to ruin her vacation.

I've read that and it seems to be kind of accurate in relation to this topic.

You never want to hear about someone being ill or in pain. Always good to hear the ride is back open and it was not the fault of the ride.

This is always a scary monent to read about this happening on any ride. Especially when its an unknown medical condition. Could happen to anyone. Is the ride opened back up?
