Fire Breaks Out in Enchanted Tiki Room

Post by elizabethswann » Jan Wed 12, 2011 7:35 pm

I thank Derek Depot on facebook for this information.

LAKE BUENA VISTA -- The Reedy Creek Fire Department is responding to a call about a small fire at the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disney's Magic Kingdom theme park Wednesday.

Sources say they have restricted access to the Tiki Room, along with th...e Country Bear Jamboree, Pacos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cage and the Sunshine Street Terrace.

No injuries have been reported.

I saw that. The fire was contained to the attic of the tiki room and was extinguished by the building's sprinkler system. All other areas that were evacuated should be open. Good to hear that there were no injuries and the fire was quickly contained and extinguished.

I'm glad everyone and everything was ok. Maybe they will be able to take Iago and Zazu out and restore the totem tikis because obviously the tiki gods were angered by the bad job they have been doing...oh, and the awful fur coat that Iago is currently wearing

Iago may be bad, but have you seen the Tiki Room from Tokyo Disney??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32xxerzh3XU
I'll take the "Under New Management" version at the MK over the Tokyo Disney version!

I had heard about the TDL's Stitch version some time ago, but I don't know if that version is still going on. That video is from 2008. Does anyone out there know if TDL's ETR still has the monster-size Stitch in the show still, or if they went back to their original version. As bad as that show appears, I still think ETR: UNM is far worse because it mixes in popular songs to replace the more polynesian style music, and adding Iago and Zazu (who is now voiced by Michael Gough instead of Rowan Atkinson) is just annoying.

I was thinking that I preferred the Stitch version over WDW's Under New Management too but I think that was more for the novelty of it being in Japanese.

Stitch doesn't show up until the show is more than halfway over, so his addition isn't that big of a nuissance, and at least it still has the polynesian style music to it.

Thanks to Fire Sprinklers! hehe I'm a fire protection engineer and have been designing those fire sprinkler systems for 10 years. I give kudos to Disney and Reedy Creek for there innovative concepts towards fire protection. They actually had an article in Nov/Dec '10 issue of NFPA Journal about "Crafting codes for Disney World". If anyone want a copy I scanned it and sent it to several of my friends and collegues.

I would certainly enjoy a copy of that article. Thanks for offering it. I read recently that Disney World has actually never had a major building fire in all their years of operation, thanks in part to the strict fire codes they established, and which many cities around the US eventually put into place. (This was in the book "Realityland" - A great book for all of those Walt Disney World fans out there.

Count me in for a copy of the article too :D I worked for the fire department for 10 years so I would be interested in seeing how strict the fires codes are!

Although, if there were no fire sprinklers, we could finally have gotten rid of Iago and Zazu from the ETR...
