New Hyperion Wharf - makeover Pleasure Island
Just saw this about the new Hyperion Wharf that will change Downtown Disney and makeover Pleasure Island! It looks like construction begins immediately, and finishes in 2013. Looks exciting, here is the link:

Well, the old concept of Pleasure Island has been kind of "dead" now for a while with all the changes over the years, so maybe its time to give a new name and a new concept...

Re: New Hyperion Wharf - makeover Pleasure Island
I saw this earlier today on Disney's facebook page. Everybody will be getting it in their email from the Disney Parks Blog tomorrow morning.
I think it is a great idea and I really do hope that it revitalizes the area. I will say it was a bit creepy to walk through Pleasure Island at night. There were more Disney Security and OCSO deputies then there were civilians.

That looks like an exciting project! I hope it will be free to experience and not require a fee...

You know what would also be nice? The Adventurer's Club

They kind of gutted it and sold off/shipped off many of the parts to other parks.
My guess is that it will either be free for everyone or free with a park hopper.

Re: New Hyperion Wharf - makeover Pleasure Island
Last time I went to Pleasure Island (many years ago) it made me think of Time Square in NYC - someone needed to clean the hookers out of the area. Pleasure Island felt more sleezy than hip.
Re: New Hyperion Wharf - makeover Pleasure Island
Pleasure Island needs major saving.....just when we thought it was "bad" with the nightclubs, now its a mere wasteland.
Adventurer's Club would be a great way to bring back some of the old-schoolers and introduce the awesomeness to a new generation.

Does that mean it's going to be spoken of by disney fans as becoming a waste of space and how they long for the old days before it sold out?mindflipper wrote:Last time I went to Pleasure Island (many years ago) it made me think of Time Square in NYC - someone needed to clean the hookers out of the area. This is great news. ANYTHING there will be a bonus. I'm sure they will contract out much of the dining, and even the shopping. Still, good news to fill this void at DTD.

I think we passed that point some time ago. When it went down-hill, the sleeziness moved in and then Disney responded by closing down the nightclubs and dance floors.Wizzard419 wrote:Does that mean it's going to be spoken of by disney fans as becoming a waste of space and how they long for the old days before it sold out?mindflipper wrote:Last time I went to Pleasure Island (many years ago) it made me think of Time Square in NYC - someone needed to clean the hookers out of the area. It looks and sounds like a toned down version of PI. Still will have some drinking establishments but looks like they are trying to incorporate some family friendly things.
As for those of you looking for an Adventurer's Culb redux, doesn't sound like that's in the plans. I found this last month and put it in the other PI thread.....

Says in there the plans appear to call for razing of that building along with the BET building.
