I prefer the Main Street Electrical Parade to Spectromagic, myself. As such, I'll add it to the listing of choices as the Disney high-ups decide to bring it back to WDW every so often...
Also, I'm adding the Electrical Water Pagaent as that is also considered a night-time event

I love the EWP, that is a lot of fun and has a great soundtrack but doesn't get a lot of attn. But I ended up putting Spectromagic above it. MSEP is great but fits much better in California than WDW [same goes for Fantasmic - it is better in DL]...

Illuminations used to be so much better - a lot more lasers and light effects. Since 2000 it hasn't, in my mind, been as good - too much focus on that floating globe and not as much focus on the countries around the World Showcase. And why they don't project images on SE as you leave the parks anymore is beyond me - it made a perfect spinning globe...

I love the MSEP as much as the next guy, but I have to go with Illuminations. I agree with simplecomp, everytime I see Illuminations, it blows me away. I think that it is an amazing show. When I saw it this past November, I watched it close-up in my favorite spot, the alcove closest to the lake near France (really great spot), and I got very emotional and cried, heh.

I haven't seen MSEP at WDW, so I won't pick that. I did see everything else, and my favorite has to be Illuminations. Reflections of Earth has got to be one of the best soundtracks for any fireworks show out there. The fireworks are just so spectacular, and really create an unforgettable experience- definitely one of the highlights of my WDW trip.
I prefer (the now extinct)Believe...there's Magic in the Stars from DLR to Wishes! Wishes, I think has better fireworks, but the Believe..soundtrack is more magical.
Spectromagic has those frickin' creepy clowns!!

There's something classic about the Main Street Electrical Parade. Eventhough it doesn't have any fireworks or lasers like the rest of them do, I think the brilliance of the lights along with the great music give it that something special. It's always been my favorite, although I really like Illuminations also.

I agree, MSEP is definitely a classic. Probably because it's been around for so long, longer than the other ones, and it has always been a family favorite. I don't think it needs lasers or fireworks. It's brilliant without them.
