Spaceship Earth Wand or No Wand

In light of the Spaceship Earth question regarding the narrators, I thought I would see what the view was on the Mickey wand that, thankfully, WDW just removed or if there are people who don't know that Spaceship Earth as it was originally designed had no Mickey wand. Based on questions I've seen in this forum my guess is most people were excited when Disney removed the Mickey wand. I know I was. :ccat:

The wand was ok for a year, but it definitely outstayed it's welcome ~ didn't know it had been finally removed but thank goodness it was!

The wand was just bad! It was and is still an example of what was wrong with Eisner's Disney!

I personally did not care for the wand and was happy when they removed it. Now if we could just get them to remove all of those "Tombstones" as you enter the park and restore the fountain to it's original glory, I would be super happy!!!

Good luck finding anyone who really liked the wand. It was cool as a concept...but in reality didn't fit at all...ever.

The wand was destroying America and emboldening the terrorists.

I'm with ya on that one Boilerbabe!
So glad to hear the wand is gone! It was cool for the millennium (though I'd rather have seen just the "2000" sitting atop SE rather than have the wand coming out from nowhere...)
We were there when Disney was first selling the blocks for the pictures...before the "tombstones" were ever put there and thought it was a great idea! The next time we went, the "tombstones" appeared and it looked just awful! They completely ruined that view when you first enter the park!

Move the "tombstones" to just outside the gate or something...they're an eyesore.

Yea move them to the middle of the swamp. Disney just has to keep them on property!

I'll trade keeping the tombstones for the removal of the Hat in DHS.

If we moved enough stuff like the hand holding the wand and the hat and a few other things it would look like a dismembered Mickey! Now there's a mental picture for you!

I grew up without the wand (Epcot Center opened 1 year and 4 months to the day after I was born). It was ok with the 2000 but after the celebration they put it up for was over it looked awful. Thank you, Siemens!!!

That's right. The wand originally said “2000” and since Epcot was the official park of the millennium that fit ok. But it should have been removed after that year. Can anyone imagine a big hand over the Tree of Life that said “Animal Kingdom”? Like did people need a big sign to tell them what park they just entered?

There's an idea, they can move all those things and put them somewhere...maybe in River Country since that is collecting dust bunnies...

Alas that can't happen. The wand is scrap metal in the dump somwhere... Would be freaky looking though.
