I thought of this question last night when I was driving home from work. Must have been a stressful day and I needed a WDW break
Question: What is your favorite room in the Haunted Mansion? This is a very popular attraction and I think it would be interesting to see what people like about this ride. My favorite is the Endless Hallway. It has always scared me since I was a little girl. Now, I just think it's spooky. That candleabra just floating down the long hallway and with the Knight's Armour moving back and forth, eesh...scary!

Ooooo, great question! My first thought is the stretching room with the Ghost Host. But then I also really like the ballroom. And what I remember most from when I first went at age 6 is the hitchhiking ghosts and how they sat on my lap!

Yes, this is a great question! I think I like the ballroom the best. I remember having a postcard of the organ back when I was younger, so that's probably my favorite:).

My first inclination is to say the ballroom, because it's obviously the major scene that puts HM so far ahead of all other ghost rides, even newer ones.
But I think the scene that is actually my favorite is the piano player; it's one of the scarier scenes in my opinion and such a simple effect but they jazz it up by adding the shadow of the phantom on the floor which I'd wager so many people miss as they stare at the piano.
Simple but so effective, the way Disney really got rolling.

This is a great topic! (but a difficult decision, since HM is my favorite attraction)
Note: I am not familiar with WDW's version as much as DL's version, so I am basing this on DL.
The obvious answer is the Ballroom scene...there is so much detail there
BUT...
I have always had a soft spot for the hitchhiking ghosts and the stretching room (which actually "stretches" out of necessity in DL thanks to a brilliant design.)
It's nearly impossible to pick a single scene because there is so much detail throughout the entire ride. I still see "new" things in the graveyard scene and if the hatbox ghost ever shows up in the attic, I may have a change of heart...we'll see

I would have thought you would have said the seance room.
But anyway, my favorite room...hm, this is tough...when I was a kid, it was the ballroom, but that was before I knew about the Pepper's ghost effect. I really do like the endless hall, but I also like the graveyard scene. I think my favorite is the graveyard though.

I loved the seance room because as a kid I had always wanted to know how Disney did the trick with the crystal ball (of course, as an adult, I now know).
The graveyard is my next favorite. (yeh, it's outside the mansion but it is a room inside the attraction). While DLR, TDL and WDW's are pretty much the same, DLP has instead a ghastly crypt which leads to the old west ghost town of Thunder Mesa. And DLR and TDL both feature for about 13 weeks of the year a Halloween-Christmas make-over to their graveyard which features some cool towering pumpkin-headed snow angels.
Unlike the HM purists, I love the HMH and I like Constance the Black Widow Bride over her predecessors in the mansion.

I figured I'd throw everyone for a loop with that one....

While I do love the seance room, I cannot call it my "favorite", although my screen name is in honor of the "star" of that scene. But I had always been facinated with the effect used for Madame Leota as a kid, so I've always liked her....

Wow--great topic
I would have to say the Graveyard with the Ballroom a close second. I remember going when I was 14 (1985) and being just amazed at the hitchhiking ghost sitting with us. Great attraction...

The Piano. It's just really cool to see no one sitting there but look at the floor and you can see his shadow playing it.

And that one originated at WDW's HM too! DLR did not get until they renovated the attic and added Constance. Thing is, most people pass it without noticing it at DLR because they're looking at everything else. What a waste.

My favorite is the graveyard scene. The old man that carries the lantern with his dog reminds me so much of "old" Disney imagineering.

Yeah, I have yet to see the shadow...of course we have only been on HM once or twice since the addition of Constance. We usually go during HMH. I'll be sure to keep an eye out in the attic in July.
There has always been something about that old man with the lantern and dog too....I just love all of the details of the HM...it why it's my favorite!!!

I will have to say it is either the stretching room or the beginning of the graveyard scene where we see the old man and his dog. I love it because you can see his knees knocking and like cousininmiami said...he has that classic Disney look to him...like the pirates in POTC. I love the stretching room because the Ghost Host bounces around the room. The pictures are also funny as they stretch and stretch.
