Tomorrowland Stage
I have a bit of a mystery that I need help solving. Wasn't there some sort of stage in Tomorrowland between the Carousel of Prograss and the building that houses Buzz Lightyear et al.? I can see what looks like a stage with a covered audience section on the official MK map, and if you look at the Google/Bing satellite imagery it's there, but if you look at the Bing "Bird's Eye" view, the stage appears to have been removed (you can see traces of where it was). Any idea when it was removed?

Since I see this topic is listed under WDW, I'm guessing that's where you're talking about. While I don't know about WDW, DL always had (and still has) a stage at Tomorrowland Terrace in the same general location you are mentioning.
Can anyone shed some light from a WDW point of view???

In Tomorrowland there is a character greeting icon where the stage is/was.

Ah! I see where you're talking about. I really don't know what is currently there, nor what used to be there. Sorry

When we were there in Dec. I think they were doing some sort of a Christmas show with Stitch? I think they did away with it though?!
Re: Tomorrowland Stage
Ok, to make matters weirder, it shows up in some "Bird's Eye" views on Bing Maps, but not on others:MmeLeota wrote:Ah! I see where you're talking about. I really don't know what is currently there, nor what used to be there. Sorry

Find the area on the map and then use the rotate feature...In some views the theater is gone.
Here, I uploaded a picture:

Not all of the images were taken at the same time...so that is why things can change as you rotate the view.

Yep, I understand that much:). My house looks significanly different with the Bird's Eye view, since some angles were taken in the spring, and some in the fall. But when was the stage removed? I don't see it at "Walt Dated World" or anything, so it must be within the past few months. Was the stage visible from the TTA?theBIGyowski wrote:Not all of the images were taken at the same time...so that is why things can change as you rotate the view.
Here's a picture with the stage:

Re: Tomorrowland Stage
If true, that would be a shame. I've seen many a concert in that theater. Especially during Night of Joy or the various High School Bands. Hard to think that they would get rid of this space. I can't remember seeing it when I got off of Buzz last time, but I didn't look either and I think they blocked it off from the TTA a while ago.
Re: Tomorrowland Stage
The stage was removed last year. There is no plan to replace it with anything, although it does seem like prime real estate for a new attraction. They use it for a Buzz Lightyear meet and greet.

I can't really remember this stage. I read the article on Jim Hill media and am alarmed that Carousel of Progress might be removed if they develop this area. I really enjoy that show, even though it could use some updating!

That is correct. You can also find Stitch over there next to Buzz.horizons1 wrote:The stage was removed last year. There is no plan to replace it with anything, although it does seem like prime real estate for a new attraction. They use it for a Buzz Lightyear meet and greet.
I can confirm it was gone by July 2009. We had to leave the park during 4th of July via behind Tomorrowland and the back end of Main Street. We were let back into Main street in between Tony's and the Confectionary. They were not really allowing any pictures, but from what my brother snuck, I snuck, and my memories, there was nothing there but empty space and cast member parking.

I've stopped reading Jim Hill pretty much because I think he does a bit too much speculating.horizons1 wrote:The stage was removed last year. Yes, CoP is old, but it is pretty low maintenance. Cast-member-wise, it takes two people to operate that huge attraction. The real cost is just keeping the animatronics running.

Re: Tomorrowland Stage
The theater was called the Galaxy Palace Theater, and yep, they used it most famously to show T'was the Night Before Christmas during the holiday season. Over the years they tried different stage shows (I worked two there, Galaxy Search, which closed in 1998, and Disney Mania, which was a castle show they moved over after Galaxy Search closed so there would be something to play.) It was always difficult to get people to come in for shows since it was kind of tucked away out of sight and in the '00s they used it mostly for Magic Music Days, as far as I could tell. Behind the stage was a big trailer that housed costuming and the dressing rooms. I really liked working there but I understand why they decided to bring it down. It was pretty much held together with cable ties anyway.
