Tron Monorail Starts Running today

Post by Pluto23 » Mar Fri 19, 2010 1:59 pm

I know it is a love/hate thing - but the Tron monorail is active starting today. It apparently is only the Coral monorail, which runs between MK and EPCOT. Thats the good news. Does look pretty neat, and could make for some unique photos.

:( I don't like it. I'm glad it's not all of the monorails, but I still hate it.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

YES - that is the good news. I did not understand at first that this was only the EPCOT monorail.

I've also read speculation that it will likely remain through December or longer since that is when the movie is coming out. I even hate that it's all of the Epcot monorails, but I guess I'd probably feel like even one was too much. I certainly hope this doesn't set a precedent. I definitely plan on mentioning my dislike to a few of the cast members when I'm there in May.

I for one think it's cool. I like that it's a nice change from the balloons on the other monorails and buses. It also reminds of the Peoplemover at Disneyland way back when.

I really like it! I hope I can see it before it is ruined by the sun.

I'll be seeing it, and maybe riding on it in about 60 days.

I'll be bored and disgusted after seeing it for a half day at EPCOT. Some of the best monorail pictures, for me, come from the area between Future World and World Showcase.

I really hope this is the only one that they do this "thing" to. In my opinion it is a slap to the monorail system. If I can get down there this summer, I will make sure to measure my disgust with CM's and guest services.

I don't think that I like it. I really don't like the stupid balloons all over the monorails either. Maybe in person the Tron one will look better.

I don't think they are that bad. I understand that balloons and the old Stitch monrail scheme didn't compromise the entire color scheme of the monorail, but to me, this is no worse than those.

I just saw a video of the Tron monorail that was posted on MiceChat and it didn't look so bad. The back part, with just the colors and not the advertising, is actually kind of pretty. I'm not too fussy on what they look like on the outside because they are such a cool form of transportation!

I stated before that I didn't like it, and that I will always prefer the sleek white monorails with their unique color stripes. I also don't like the balloons, Stitch, etc.

While the colors are fun for us to use for identification (I like using Red with SSE in the background for my pictures), they seem to be a necessity for the monorail pilots and cast members for ID. Each color is a unique identifier for the trains. I would assume that they now call this monorail TRON, since there is no Coral visible for ID. Which brings me to my question: will they be doing this to more than one monorail, and if so will the TRON overlay be different for each monorail? If it were the same for each monorail, there would be no unique visual identifier.

After the accident last year, I would definitely not want to mess with the unique identifier, as it may have an impact on the operations. Metro trains, aircraft, buses, etc all have highly visible numbers, or colors, or something that is unique for identification. 2 identical TRON monorails would not...
