I would love to see DisneyWorld add a park totally devoted to their Movie Themes. With all the great animated movies (Peter Pan, Alladin, Beauty and the Beast, etc) and their action movies (Pirates of the Carribean, Escape to Witch Mountain, Mary Poppins, etc), they could create fantastic rides and movie theme based attractions.

The movie themed rides now existing in WDW are becoming stale. I am a big Peter Pan fan, but after 50 + times riding Peter Pan adventures, I no longer feel like waiting 1/2 hour to ride a 2 minute ride.

I would rather see them renovate and expand the current theme parks more than add a new theme-park. The new Fantasyland Expansion will pick up Beauty and the Beast as well as the Little Mermaid. I would to see one day an additional expansion to fantasyland that was British themed and could do Mary Poppins, Bednobs & Broomsticks, an updated Peter Pan, and a new version of Mr. Toads Wild Ride. But as for a new theme park? No. Get the current parks updated and expanded first.

I agree Mind. The expansion of Fantasyland sounds great. I would also like to see them come up with something for the old Wonders of Life pavilion. And there's room for another country around the Lagoon where the outpost is. They have made some nice improvements recently. The HOP is a nice change. SSE is decent. I would rather see them continue with those types of updates than another park. Quality vs. quantity.

Yeah I think updating the current parks is the best thing to do. The last thing you want is for people to leave one park to go to another one because it's new. You end up with park cannibalization. What you are looking for is something that can exist in the four existing parks. You want something that is more attraction driven than theme park driven. For example...MK has Frontierland which has a theme. Within Frontierland are attractions that reinforce the theme. That is far different from just a bunch of attractions that exist within themselves.

Sometimes entire parks are created from attraction ideas though. DHS was supposed to be in EPCOT as an ode to the motion picture industry. Animal Kingdom was a manifestation of Walt's original intent for Disneyland in terms of showcasing the beauty of the animal world.

Also remember that there are millions and millions of people who have never ridden the old classics and will ride them for the first time someday. You don't want to get rid of something because a select few have "ridden it to death". Is it any wonder that Peter Pan has such long lines? It has that "Disney Magic" that we all love. I think the Fantasyland expansion is exactly what Disney Imgineering needs to be doing. "Plus" what you have.

I'm in agreement with all of you...I think Disney should update and refurb their current parks before moving on and building a new one.

I think the current parks have so much potentail why add something new? refurb and expand!!!

And I don't think we're the only ones who say this - from what I heard, the Disneyland expansion was a corporate idea, not a WDW idea. And there's DCA is also getting renovated (see separate thread for discussion on that). Star Tours is getting renovated at DLR and WDW (and I would presume at DLP and TDL as well?). It seems like Disney has heard what the public wants for once.

Also, it could be because of the economy. Renovation/Expansions, while expensive, are far less expensive than building a whole new theme park.

This is quite interesting. I first looked at the topic and thought, "no, they don't need another theme park,but need to focus on the quality of what they have now". Then I come into the topic and everybody has voiced that opinion.

I have said it time and time again. Guests don't really need the newest and fastest. They expect immersion. Disney needs to take a hard look at POTC and HM. Those rides are very old now yet constantly draw long lines. Why? Simply, it's the detail. I've been on both of them hundreds of times and still see something new. They don't get old.

Disney had to look at it's roots and once again embrace the "Theme" in Theme Park. Cartoons and comedy shows in Tomorrowland need to go. Cutting finances to upkeep needs to go (IE: Wonders of life). Trying to force Disney characters, specifically princesses and pixar down our throats needs to go.

Innovation and creativity needs to come back to play. Show us what we haven't seen before. Educate me like EPCOT did back when I was 12 years old in fascinating ways that led me to where I am now. Inspire me. Exceed my expectations.

Disney needs to be proactive like it used to be and not reactive.

I have alway long felt that EPCOT was is need of a better direction and renovation. The changes made in the past seems to be getting away from its original intent of being like an ever-evolving World's Fair. Putting Nemo and Friends into the Living Seas was a mistake. At least when they added Ellen Degeneres to the Universe of Energy they balanced it out with Bill Nye, the Science Guy so it retained a sliver of education to its show. Maybe after the Fantasyland Expansion they would do an EPCOT Future World Renovation (Wonders of Life, Innoventions, and Journey into Imagination)?

I personally think Epcot, AK, and DHS all three need more added to them, adding a 5th gate is over kill at this time.

I dont understand why you would add a 5th park just for the movies, isnt that what DHS is supposed to be?

Id also like to see Disney use DHS as an actual studio again.

I think there's potential in sag746's idea...however, I think instead of a new park it could be an expansion (a new "land" if you will) of DHS. I would love to see some of the classic live-action flicks be brought back to life in some way. Give the new generation a taste of what we grew up on...when Disney had true imagination.

I have high hopes for the new Little Mermaid ride...TSM turned out great, let's hope Mermaid will be too! (as far as the WDW fantasyland expansion goes, I am interested in seeing the new Dumbo!)

For whatever reason it seems like Epcot and DHS have been left behind in the times. I do think the addition of Pixar Place at DHS was a very smart move and i hope they continue to add on to it. (i really hope DHS gets the Cars ride that DL is getting.)

Yes I agree. I'd rather see them work on what they have for now. The can add a new park later in the future. Also, isn't a "movie based theme park" what Hollywood Studios is for?

Wow it looks like this is something that everybody is in agreement on. I have to agree with everybody on what they have said. Would I like to see a new theme park in the future... of course I would. Remember, a lot of the original land is still not developed. There is plenty of room for Disney World to still grow.

As for the present, a lot of work needs to be done to rejuvenate the current parks. I am very excited for the fantasyland expansion project. It is really going to bring the Magic Kingdom together. After all toontown really never seemed like it was a permanent area. Once that project is under way, I would love to see the imagineers do something with DHS and especially EPCOT. Futureworld needs a lot of work. I am happy with how Spaceship Earth turned out. It is not perfect, but it was a good start for trying to revitalize Futureworld. As for everything else, work had to be done. I would love to see Disney try and bring back a refreshed, but classical EPCOT. Then there is DHS. I would love to see more come to Pixar Place. I truly feel that this could be the start of a major area for Disney to improve DHS. I personally feel the Backlot Tour has reached it's end. The space that it is occupying could easily be used to make some more attractions that can be added into Pixar Place. Also, not mentioned is the Star Tours refurbishment where another good classic attraction is being brought into the 21st century.

Remember, all of this takes a lot of time and money to make possible. I do see a lot of potential and good that can be coming from Disney. Major steps have been taken (DCA major overhaul, fantasyland expansion and redoing Star Tours) and it really shows Disney trying to tie things together.
