Flu (swine) at WDW???

Post by missynole » Oct Sat 24, 2009 12:08 pm

Two of my friends just got back from WDW and one came back with swine flu and the other regular flu. I leave in one week for an entire week and now we aren't sure whether it's safe to go. Has any one recently come back with problems? Does anyone have any suggestions? Should we think about reconsidering our plans? Probably the last thing WDW needs is a flu outbreak. Help!

It is very easy to get sick anywhere there are large groups of people. Wash your hands before eating, especially after touching a hand rail!!!
We are all a little weird
And life's a little weird,
And when we find someone whose
Weirdness is compatible with ours,
We join up with them and fall in
Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

I agree with MadEye. Just think of all the things that you touch during the day that have been touched by countless other people from many different states and countries! Wash your hands very often and don't touch anywhere around your face.

It's inevitable. You are in a place with thousands of people and come in contact with things that are being touched and handled by hundreds of people. It is pretty much the same amount of risk you take when going anywhere else; a shopping mall, school, on the bus.

Anytime you go to Disney, church, work, school, shopping, or anyplace else where there are people, you are going to be a risk. You just have to keep yourself clean, limit your risk and live your life. DON'T HIDE, HAVE FUN. ;+>

I just got back a week ago and have been fighting something off ever since. I started to feel sick a couple days before we left, and unfortunately it wasn't just the tought of leaving this time. With that being said, I wouldn't change trip plans because the flu is going around.

Bring hand sanitizers everywhere even if they're in travel/pocket form. It will help you out!

I hate to say this, but hand sanitizer is not fool proof. It will not prevent you from contracting any diseases. There is no better option than soap and water. I would recommend not touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you wash up before and after. AND make sure you wash up before all meals. I just never realized that the servers in Prime Time were actually quizzing you on the soap for your own safety!

Have they been shutting down county school systems in the rest of the country? They haven't shut down our system yet, but a few of the local counties have.

There are have been some schools shut down in Illinois and some cases of Swine Flu in Indiana, but no real out breaks or anything. I work in a hospital based fitness facility, so I'm pretty much surrounded! I just constantly wash my hands and try not to touch my face, mouth and eyes. We have the hand sanitizers all over the facility as well.

A few years back the Noro Virus was going around...I caught that one and thought I was going to die! It was pretty awful. I hope everyone stays germ free! Hope you feel better Mr. Toadwildrider.

Last year they were quick to shut down schools. This year I have really not heard anything. I know Rutgers is trying to prevent any shutdowns and has planned mass inoculations to try and prevent swine flu out breaks on the campus. However, with all that said... there are/were cases at my college and they have not even thought of canceling.

Len: will the innoculations be mandatory for all students on campus? I've seen on the news some universities will make it mandatory (don't get the shot, then get kicked out). To me, that seems a bit drastic but I've actually heard it from a college student. So, since you're one of our resident college student on this forum, I gotta ask. Are you going to have to get the shot?
