New monorail train at WDW

Post by Richard Bruvofetc » Oct Fri 16, 2009 3:28 am

For all you monorail spotters, Disney are introducing a new monorail.

I wonder if they'll introduce the MkVII at some point?

At least Disney showed some respect!

I doubt they will be making Mark VIII anytime soon. Assuming the story is correct and a 12th train is coming in 2010, why build a whole new train if they are just going to replace them with a new model. It sounds like the Mark VI is here to stay awhile longer. Unless of course the new train in 2010 is a Mark VIII and they will slowly phase out the Mark VI's.

I am starting to think that the two damaged ends are what will be making the appearance in 2010. Glad to see Disney do the right thing in retiring Purple and Pink. Getting the 11th train back should help out the system a lot since I believe they have been running all 10 that were remaining everyday.

So, I guess this will finally answer the question as to what will happen with the damaged monorails. And it didn't take that long also considering all the investigations and legal stuff that has to go on.

I'm glad that Disney retired the colors from the damaged Monorails. Shows some respect. I wonder if the new one will be out when we're there?

I'm not sure about retiring the colours.
I would have liked to see a Monorail Pink rebuilt with a dedication to her pilot on the cabin. A little morbid for WDW perhaps but a nice lasting reminder.
We all now know both pink and purple are going to be re-engineered anyway as "Teal". Guess I'm in the minority on this one.

Now what has Las Vegas done with it's retired Ex Disneyland MkIV monorails. :?

Could we see a coast to coast comeback? :)

I think that the Teal monorail should have a memorial to Austin (even if it is only in the cab) since it will be constructed of both trains. I am glad they chose to retire Pink and Purple.

The last time I knew, they were sitting out in the desert somewhere...vandalized.

WARNING: anyone who had any kind of connection to these trains will find these pics apalling! (the pics are at the end of the article about the new monorail)
This article is from 5 years ago, so I don't know if the conditions have changed or not.

I drove these 2 trains here in LV so it's really hard for me to see these...and I know it must be equally as hard for anyone who remembers them in WDW.

You mean Purple as that is the one Austin was piloting that night.

Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

Yes I did mean Purple. I stand corrected.

I don't think they will for a while in WDW. The Mark VII's in Disneyland really fit theme for tomorrowland because out ther the monorail is more of an attraction where as in WDW it's a major transportation route for guests.

Although I will admit, we always make sure we get to "ride the monorail" at some point in our visit.

I couldn't get that link to work, but I found an article about it from the Orlando Sentinel.

I think its a nice gesture to retire the colors, although it seems a little weird to build from two crashed trains. Cost effective I guess.

They military does this all the time. It takes damaged vehicles and combines them to make a working one all the time.
