ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A bold crook pulled off a robbery in the heart of Orlando's tourism district. Downtown Disney became the scene of a crime as the popular McDonald's restaurant there was robbed and two employees were tied up (see map). The restaurant was closed until around 2:00pm as a result.
The robbery happened Tuesday morning and the crook was still on the loose Tuesday afternoon. The robber came in with a hood and gloves demanding cash.
Just before 7:00am and before the restaurant opened for business, the Orange County Sheriff's Office got a call from a LegoLand employee that they had found the two McDonald's workers tied up.
It's not clear now if a weapon was used, but the workers were not hurt. The hooded man got away with cash and detectives are working to find him and figure out why that McDonald's was targeted.
Disney told Eyewitness News they have an extensive security team with a 24-hour presence, not to mention Orange County sheriff's deputies patrolling throughout the night. Even with that, the robber managed to get in and get out with money.
Disney visitor Teresa Temple chose a different McDonald's Tuesday morning and was glad for that.
"It would be very scary. I've never been involved in anything like that and I wouldn't want to be," she said.
Sheriff investigators did not release the 911 call or surveillance video Tuesday. They also don't have a good description of the suspect.
