RFID coming to WDW
Al Lutz has a new rumor out about Radio Frequency ID (RFID) coming to Fantastyland in Disney World. This RFID would be located in your ticket and would allow attractions to be more personalized (kind of like the old ET at Universal Studios). Thoughts?
My biggest concern is that one person in our party always carries all the tickets for safekeeping, so it wouldn't work out so well for us!

Not going to be a fan of it personally. I would fill that survey out in correctly so they would have incorrect info first of all. Then I would try to hack the RFID to make things do other stuff. As for what you said about one person holds the tickets I can see how that would be bad. not to mention a real pain for the computer system that thinks 5 people are sitting in the same seat.

The advantages are that they could get a better gauge on how many people ride on each ride and extract better data that way. I'm all for it...as long as it doesn't create a big jump in ticket prices.
Another problem is that it won't work for everyone since some people have, and will have older park passes that have no expired. It would be easy to add to your Key to the World card though since it's already a hard plastic card.

I never went on said ET ride... can someone explain what 'more personalized' means in terms of attractions? Will the Small World children address me by name? I really don't want to be going through the ride hearing them whispering to me...Esmeralda wrote:would allow attractions to be more personalized (kind of like the old ET at Universal Studios). I haven't been on ET in like 10 years, but if I rememberat the end you fly by him and he says(in his ET voice) See you soon...disbeamer, yodiwan1, bobby, jill, aaron.....and so on....before you get on the ride they ask you your name.I never went on said ET ride... can someone explain what 'more personalized' means in terms of attractions? I heard about this already on another website. I'm all for it but I'm sure it will take some time to get used to it at first. I'm just intrigued on what animatronics will be chosen to speak to you, will Dopey say something to you as you exit the last scene at Snow White when hes waving goodbye to you...wait he doenst even speak so it couldn't be him. It should be a good way for Disney to track guest movements in the park
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

Okay ... so I get the premise now but I'm puzzled where they'd make use of this in the existing Fantasyland attractions. I guess you might be able to assume that everyone in one honey pot, one Pan ship or one ... dwarf car(?) is in the same party and say something to them that way, but it wouldn't work on Small World or Philharmagic or anything where you have a bigger group.
Actually... I guess if they could tag everyone in a Small World boat they could have all the names from one boat at a time pop up in that 'Goodbye' room or something. That wouldn't be too obtrusive, and it might be kinda fun to pick your name out from the .. sparkly flowers or whatever. More fun (and less bone-chilling) than all the little dolls screaming out names, anyway.

Small World
All the Small World dolls whispering your names, thats what nightmares are made of, like a bunch of chucky dolls! haha
I really see no harm in personlizing if it doesnt change the overall experience of the rides. I honestly would like to see how they pull this one off and not ruin some of the magic on the rides. I am for it if the overall ride experience that fans have grown to love doesnt get ruined by a possessed doll saying my name!

The more I think about this (I'm a low volt tech), it seems that Disney could track everyone in a park. This could be used for crowd control and other security issues. It could also be used for marketing. They would be able to track where people go and what attractions are being seen the most. Disney could adapt how they target people with their internet marketing.

Great...now they will know how many Dole Whips and Sam Adams we are all consuming. And I'm with the rest of you...I do not want those little satanic dolls calling me by my name.Jacca5660 wrote:The more I think about this (I'm a low volt tech), it seems that Disney could track everyone in a park. If it is only in one attraction than how can this be considered tracking? and if it's in mroe than one its only fantasyland.. there's no way to track them unless they are staying in FL. As to the dolls whispering the names...it would be like being in an episode of Lost!!!! lol I can only see this working on IASW or WTP.

There is one place where I see this being useful - at the entrance turnstiles. Those ticket takers are always breaking down, but if RFID is anything like my work badge, they would work much more consistently.
Hmm, couldn't they reverse that? I wouldn't mind not being able to get into work, but I always want to get into Disney!
