'One Man's Dream' gets a D23 partnership

One Man's Dream has long been a fan favorite at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Now, the beloved attraction, which pays homage to the life and vision of Walt Disney, now celebrates the fans who are equally important to the Disney legacy. Starting tomorrow, One Man's Dream will be presented by D23 with new "D23 Welcomes You" signage on the marquee.

Many of those pieces came from the Walt Disney Archives, which is a big part of the D23 community. "So it's only natural and fitting that the One Man's Dream exhibit should be presented by D23," notes Becky Cline, manager of the Walt Disney Archives and a D23 team member.

The partnership includes new D23 theming and a new display case featuring the room of a Disney fan (we won't say whose!), adding to the robust collection of Disney history currently on display. "One Man's Dream is a collection of artifacts, models, memorabilia and special effects," adds Eric. "It appeals to the Disney fans because it can't be seen anywhere else."

I saw this posted elsewhere. I think it's tacky as hell, especially the "JOIN D23!" banner.

I'm looking forward to the day the hitchhiking ghosts are holding DVC ads. Can't be long now.

Edit to add: The pics I saw were on the disboards (someone took them) over here, if you want to see.

I still think that the D23 was such a disappointing letdown. I was hoping for something exciting and epic but nope.

I've gone beyond the point where I find it disappointing to the point where I find it insulting. I realize they're slapping the word "official" all over it to negate the impact of fansites (which are, by and large, more useful and better run than the main Disney company site), but it carries with it the suggestion that to be a real, official fan, you need to smack down your $75 per year.

Disney, I've given you enough money over the years to qualify as an 'official fan' without needing your little certificate, kthx.

I'm happy that there are people in the Disney collectibles community who are pleased with it (and some people outside of that, I guess... if it floats your boat, that's great). I can't understand why they were touting it as 'big for the Internet community' (via viral marketing) or 'big for the highest affinity group' as Iger said ('cuz wouldn't that group be the people who spend thousands of dollars per trip, sometimes several times a year?), but I do realize there are some people who think D23 is the cat's meow and more power to them. For me, to be honest, going into Barnes and Noble and seeing the teeny magazines covered in plastic so you couldn't even look at 'em was the last straw for me. Thus the 'Disney and I are on a break' thing.

Seeing them do things like in the above pictures is just solidifying in my mind that I made the right choice.
