Night time Animal Kingdom
Does anyone agree with me that if disney thought hard enough..they could think of a way to keep animal kingdom open at night? I think night time at DAK would be quite an experience...and I heard rumors about a tiki torch parade a long time ago...how sweet would that be?

If you want to see AK in the dark you can go during the winter months. In December they have extra magic hour and the park is open until 7pm, and the sunset is at 4:45pm(around it). I went once or twice and got some good pictures, two of them are wallpaper's for the site:

If you stay on property during the summer months you can go to AK until Dusk it seems, but you can probably hang around for an extra 30 minutes if you really tried. EMH go until 9:00pm, and if end of civil twilight is 8:52 p.m. that means it is dark right at the end of EMH's. So I would say just go during months when the sun sets earlier and the EMH's are still until 9pm.

Yes, we did EMH back in November and it was open until 11pm. The park has an entirely different feel at night and was a great experience. There wasn't a whole lof of attractions open during EMH due to the majority of the park dedicated to outside and/or animal attractions but Everest, Dinosaur, TTBAB, and KRR, Primeval Whirl, TriceraTop Spin and Pangani Forest Trail were open and waits were less than 5-10 minutes (and this was Thanksgiving week).
So I am not sure if the list of open attactions during EMH are big enough to draw the crowd or the word just hasn't gotten out but that night was truely a memorable one and will be doing EMH again for sure next time.

the reason that AK is not open late at night is because of the live animals. The animals, like the people in the park, need sleep at night. Plus, with all the crowds/commotion going on during the day, they don't want to stress out the animals any more than necessary.
as for the crowd issues, the crowds are a bit smaller during the EMH, as they are for the resort guests only. if the general public were to stay, I'm sure that the crowds would be a bit heavier. Though, the park is so big (as it was meant to swallow crowds) that you probably wouldn't notice.

I have been there in summer 2006 for EMH. I personally found it to be a unique experience even though there was not that much open in the park. The wait times were less than at other parks durin EMH and it was enjoyable to walk around the park. During dusk, the temperature at the park felt like 10 degrees less than during the late morning-early afternoon hours when I usually go there. It was a very enjoyable experience.

We've stayed at the AKL and you can get a great view of the animals at night from there. JS is right it is an animal stress issue.

I actually like the Animal Kingdom closing early. When we schedule a day there, I always know we're going to have a free evening to plan other things. Sometimes, we go back to our room to "refresh," then head to another resort for nice dinner. Sometimes we head to Downtown Disney for shopping and eats. Sometimes, it's just a must-needed early end to the day. And since you can see the entire park buy 5 p.m., it works out perfect.

The problem with night kingdom..well according to the disney rumor mills anyway..is that it would cost much more for each person to get in. Yes, it might deliver a completely different experience..but regardless..I personally will probably not pay $200 dollars to go to any kind of theme park...unless, that is, I am showered with Champagne and greeted by beautiful victoria secret models upon enterance. But even then I would have to debate whether Id go or not..because honestly if Im showered with champagne, then that means im going to be sticky for the rest of the evening...and well...even though I consider myself a rather good looking individual...being greeted by models would just be a tease..and coupling this with a $200 enterance fee would just be adding insult to injury. Where am I going with all this? Im not sure..I just wanted to somehow incorporate victoria secret models in a Disney forum posting.

We beat the Night Kingdom idea around quite a bit back in this thread. To be a broken record, I'd still rather not see them do a 5th gate... maybe another piece of AK but not a separate park.Peerless83 wrote:The problem with night kingdom..well according to the disney rumor mills anyway..is that it would cost much more for each person to get in.
You might be onto something here. There's all that unused space at Pleasure Island now. Disney's Red Light Kingdom? Goldmine!Yes, it might deliver a completely different experience..but regardless..I personally will probably not pay $200 dollars to go to any kind of theme park...unless, that is, I am showered with Champagne and greeted by beautiful victoria secret models upon enterance.

would they really have to change the name then, if that's the idea? They could still call it "Pleasure Island", just change the back story, and put a little more emphasis on the "Pleasure". kinda like those beer commercials - "There's friends, then there's friends"DisBeamer wrote:You might be onto something here. Even better. They wouldn't eve have to change the signs or reprint the napkins. They're missing out on a golden opportunity.js3901 wrote:would they really have to change the name then, if that's the idea? OK!! You get the points for getting Victoria Secret Models in a Disney post! Reading this I was trying to figure out how I would get my DW to go. I know I'd have no problem at all getting my teenage boys to come with me. Mama might kick our butts, but that's another story!Peerless83 wrote:The problem with night kingdom..well according to the disney rumor mills anyway..is that it would cost much more for each person to get in.
