Just was wondering...

Post by kima86 » Feb Mon 09, 2009 2:51 pm

...if there was a ride you were afraid to ride, but once you tried it you loved it? This happened on my last trip that I took with my 23 yr old son the last week in January. In all of my previous 6 visits, I had no desire to ride Tower of Terror or Rock n Roller Coaster because of my total fear of them.

My son convinced me I would be fine and he wanted me to experience his favorite ride (RNRC) with him. How could I turn down my own son? As a warm up to that ride, he took me on TOT. On that particular day, everything at that end of the park was basically a walk on so I didn't have much time to back out.

My anxiety was beginning to get the better of me as I was imagining all sorts of crazy stuff in my head as I stepped into the elevator car. Once the first drop was out of the way, my fears passed and allowed me to actually enjoy it. As a matter of fact, we went on it 2 other times and it is now one of my favorite rides!

We then went on to RNRC that had a 5 min standby, again not much time to back out. I came off that ride without any problems and we rode that again later in the day. I just am upset at myself for letting my fears deprive me of 2 great rides for all of these years!

So, what about any of you? Have you had the same experiences as I did where you were afraid of a certain ride and once you tried it, you liked it (or at least would ride it again)?

I am not a huge roller coaster fan...so I was nervous about riding RNRC...but when it was over I wanted to ride it over and over again. Same thing with ToT. I am not afraid of heights, but rather falling. So this would be the last thing I would want to do but I love it. Best part is that I get really nervous every single time. I guess it makes it more fun because it keeps it from ever getting old.

Space Mountain. I had no problem with Tower before I finally went on SM though...

I can't think of any Disney attractions off the top of my head but one attraction that I was very afraid was Dueling Dragons in Universal. Even to this day, I still get nervous when I wait in line for this ride but right after I come over wondering how I could be so afraid, it is such a great attraction.

I'm sure there is a Disney attraction that I felt the same way but I overcame those fears for the Disney Coasters when I was little since they aren't as intense as other coasters found around the world
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

I would have to say Test Track. When I first went on it after it opened I was scared by the sound of the cars whizzing by outside the building. However, after I went on it, I make sure that it is something I go on every time. I think I'll have to try ToT next.

I'm not a big rollercoaster fan, but Rock n' Rollercoaster is one of my favorite attractions! The first time I rode it was back when you didn't really know when the ride was going to start (before it counted down to when it took off) and I was kind of nervous waiting in the queue and seeing the cars take off. When it was our turn, I was calm on the outside and freaking out on the inside. However, the ride was awesome and we rode it many times during that trip and many times since then!

I have never been afraid to ride any attraction. When I was younger, my father was nervous to ride SM, but I would drag him on just for the thrill of barely seeing the support structure and feeling like it was about to take off my head. I know, I get this weird thrill out of putting my neck on the line.

Not afraid necessarily, but being taller and not being able to see the tracks, I was/am reluctant to ride Space Mountain because I thought my head was going to get taken off. I always come out of that ride with a stiff neck... :?

Glad to see so many of you are now enjoying rides that you once were afraid to go on before! It just gives you more opportunities to enjoy yourself while on vacation. That's why Disney is so great - it offers many different kinds of rides for all ages and ride preferences.

FYI, there's a video somewhere of Shaquille O'Neal riding Space Mountain with his hands up, so if he didn't get hurt, I doubt you all will :-D

Definitely RNRC. The only reason I went on it for the first time is because my friends were with me and I didn't want to be a chicken slash be bored waiting for them. I used to really HATE going upside down on roller coasters (still do a little) so RNRC's loop was freaking me out. I almost psyched myself out enough to take the chicken exit. Fortunately, I went on and after that first little bit I had a great time! And now after going on Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris (2 loops and 2 corkscrews...unbeknownst to me....:O), I'm pretty much over the whole upside-down thing. lol

I actually have an opposite of this with Mission Space. I thought it would be fun (and it was) but it was a bit much for me. I've done it once and I'll probably not do it again.

Yeah...I love Mission Space...but I can only ride it once per day at most. I just get sick to my stomach and it never really goes away. I think if I tried to ride it more than once I would throw up.
