2009 Refurbishments

It looks like Ellen's Energy Adventure is down January through March. Does anyone know if this is just for cleaning or are they making a few small updates too?
I thought I'd make this a general topic for refurbs. The only big one I know of at the world this year is the Hall of Presidents (obviously). Anything else exciting happening?

I love Ellen's Energy Adventure! I was looking forward to riding it on our next trip. Oh well, at least I was able to ride it when I was down there in December...

There's two whole threads dealing with the Space Mountain rehab that's happening from April to the end of the year.
And I echo the sentiments of missing Ellen. Where else am I going to get my mid-day nap when I go to Epcot next month?

Whoops, forgot about Space Mountain (it makes me sick, so I sit that one out). Let's keep the Space refurbishment in those other topics.
I know not everyone agrees, but I'll be missing Ellen as well, she never fails to amuse my shallow mind! Though MW, how can you nap on those horrid seats?!

Maybe SSE?
TTA is going down during the Space Mountain refurb.
Magic Kingdom has a lot going on...
PhilarMagic is down from Jan 18 - Feb 6
The Riverboat will be down from Feb. 19 - 28
Then there are a few quickies
Epcot: Ellen's is all that is going on this year so far
DHS:
American Film Institute and Backlot tour are going to be down from Jan. 12 - Feb. 28
Mermaid will be down from Jan. 27 - Jan. 29
AND the biggie... Sounds Dangerous is listed as down for the entire year and listed as "seasonal". I would say that is the end of this attractions run.
AK: Nothing going on at all that I know of through Aug.

Oh my gosh, great question. I too am a fan of EEA but the last time I was there I was so uncomfortable on the seats that I could barely last through the whole thing. Hopefully, they're refurbing the seats.

TTA will be closed as well as Space Mountain. I'm more upset about the TTA being down. I hope it will be just temporary but the Disney website reports that it will be closed through at least August.

Splash Mountain is closed until January 18. Although, it is way too cold for that ride now.

I say yay to that one. Hopefully they'll put in something better into that spot. Something focusing on movie sound would be great. But there have to be better ways of showcasing that art than what SD did.
And I'm bummed about Philharmagic and Ellen, I have to miss both.

I could nap anywhere cool on a hot Florida day! And SSE is too short. But not to worry, I thought of American Adventure shortly after I posted, so all is well!

I imagine they're only giving it some maintenance, although if they redid the film but kept Ellen (after all, she's still a popular celebrity), then they wouldn't have to change any of the animatronics in the Dinosaur diorama. In that case, all that would be needed is to slightly reprogram the ride vehicles to accommodate the new film, and that could conceivably be done from January-March.

I believe it is mainly due to the fact that you would be able to see into Space Mountain during the rehab.......plus there will be lots of metal overhead and welding going on so I think they want to limit the risk to guests.

One can only hope. I bet it'll be back up at Thanksgiving and Christmas, though, a la Wonders of Life before it was gutted.

Splash always goes down in January for its yearly refurb (I've noticed it's the same time every year because it tends to coincide with me thinking about planning trips for my birthday

). I assume it's because of the 'too cold' factor you mentioned.

actually, it's because all the water makes the paint dissolve, as well as starts to rust (and get into the circutry of) some of the animatronics. There are pictures around the web of the painters dressed up in "country-fied" clothes to keep the themeing, as they don't put the big walls up for such a short "refurb"

I personally think it might not even open for those days since it was even down last year during July 4th. They kept a CM in front of it who told me it was down that week for "routine maintenance" but no work was being done.
