14 more Days!

What would be a good amount for daily MouseKeeping (Port Orleans - Riverside, 9 nights)? We don't travel very often, so we're not really sure what's fair (not too much, not too little). I think I read somewhere $3 per night (morning).

This is a great question. I would like to know the answer too. I have seen that anything from $1-$5 is typical.

I've always heard that $1 per person, per day. So if you have 4 people in your room you should leave $4 per day.

I like the buck-a-head line of thinking. It seems reasonable and easy to remember.

I usually do the buck-a-head route too, unless it's unusually messy or I'm asking for something extra to be done.

One thing to note is that you should leave it every day instead of one lump sum at the end as you might not have the same mousekeeper throughout (especially on weekends... if you're there a week and check out on a weekend it's usually a different person). Not that that's a huge deal, but it's something that never occurred to me before a few years ago.

We just returned a few weeks ago from WDW and we stayed at PO too! We left $3/night and there was just two of us. But, I think $1/person is fair!

wow, i have never heard of this before...I knwo when I worked there, I was told unless you were a waiter you were not to accept tips, so i have never thought to elave one. I feel horrible now...maybe this explains why i had blood stained towels last visit...

LOL, yodiwan don't worry, this past trip was the first time my DH and I have ever left a tip! I didn't know either before!

We did have good service and the two nights we stayed at the Poly they left us a ton of H2O stuff and made a huge towel animal.

Wow, I didn't know to leave a tip either - I will definatley be doing that this time though!

If you're going to leave a tip every day, instead of at the end, will the Mousekeeper know that they are supposed to take the money and that's it's not just extra cash laying around? Where should I put the tip so they know that it's for them?

Kay, I don't want to start an argument a la DIS (since they LOVE to argue about this, lol), but just to point out - Disney doesn't considering Mousekeeping a 'tipped position'. So, technically, they're not supposed to expect tips like, say, a server would, and if you don't feel like you want to leave one (or can't afford to), you shouldn't feel obligated.

I view it as a personal choice thing myself; I think everyone should do what they're comfortable with. *nod*

Spodie - I usually leave the tip with the little card that has the mousekeeper's name on it (the one they leave in the room). And I usually leave that on the counter by the sink. They seem to 'get' it.

DO they leave this name card in all resorts? Within the past 2 eyars I have spent a total of 10 nights at the all-star resorts, and never gotten a name card. If i did I would have known who to complain about about my disgusting room last trip.

Huh... I've never not seen a name card thing. Sometimes it's just the car with no name on it, but the card has always been there for me (at CBR, CR, PR, POR, WL and the Swolphin).

I've never stayed at All Stars; maybe they don't do it? I dunno.

For complaining, though, I would have just hit 'housekeeping' on the phone and raised a lil' (polite) hell.

This is really good to know. I was afraid NOT to leave a tip for our first few trips to Disney parks. I had learned - the hard way, mind you - that tipping the housekeeping in most hotels (especially on business trips) was a good idea if you didn't want to "lose" some small item(s) from your room before the end of your trip.

I do have to point out that I've only ever received the utmost service from everyone involved in my Disney vacations, including mousekeeping.

I have always left the tip under one of those cards that are bent in a "V" shape, set on ends, like a tent, in the vanity area. My son was a cast member and told me the house keepers were not suppose to pocket the money. They have to hand it over to the house. I still leave the tip. One dollar a day. Thank you for this post. Now I know I am supposed to leave one dollar for each person in our party.
