Cutbacks slated for WDW

It looks like some of the cutbacks slated for 2009 at WDW will include the elimination of the Pirate & Princess party, earlier park closing times, fewer concerts (looks like only three per week) at the Flower and Garden festival and reduction in staff. I know that early reservation tabulation shows about a 10% decrease in projected attendance but it looks like the powers in charge are preparing preemptive action. January is only a month away so I guess we'll see starting then.

I guess this means that the other half of the pop century isn't going to be restarted anytime soon

Yeah I think you're right - there was some fairly serious consideration to complete the Legendary Years section of the Pop as family suites based on the popularity of them at the All Stars but it looks like that's not going to happen anytime soon. For various reasons, any plans to complete the resort have been back burnered for years now.

Did they just recently cancel these? I heard that they were doing it again next year.

The (tentative?) decision was made this week...I think that although there are dates listed for 2009, the ability to purchase tickets is missing from the web. I suppose reservations may have more definite information. I do know that although alot of people seemed to like the parties the attendance figures were consistently below what the beancounters considered profitable.

I kinda thought some of the concerts were pointless anyhow. Most of the artists I have never heard of, and if I wanted to go to a concert I wouldn't be at Epcot anyhow.

And I also heard that they are cutting EPCOT's hours on EMH night (friday) to 8pm. Very weird since EPCOT has been open till 9pm for a long time now. So if you ever want to see Illuminations at 8pm, there is your chance...well on NYE actually, Illuminations was on twice, (once at 7pm, and once at midnight) but good luck (because the crowds were INSANE!!)

We may have to cut out our 2009 trip in June that we were planning. Our furnace just died and it is either heat or Disney trip. Considering we live in PA and need the heat sorry Mickey.

Bummer! I hate having to spend money on not fun (but necessary) things...

Sorry to hear that, sherabby. I know how you feel; in 2005 we were planning a trip to WDW for our anniversary, and then I had to go into the hospital. I hope you can visit sometime soon.

There's always another time for Disney, don't worry! Heat comes first.

I'm upset about the fact of them limiting the amount of Fantasmic shows per week. That will just make it harder to get in to the few that they will be showing. That is one thing that they should not cut out.
