I heard they're recording a new video, which would lead me to believe that they're going to change the ride. But I heard back in June they were thinking about updating the flight simulator completely...has anyone heard about that? Or when the new video will debut?

I heard that rumor as well - actually sounded more plausible this time with some talks with Lucas or whatever - but nothing since then. I wish they'd update it. It's heading for the 'refuse to do that anymore graveyard' for me (home to such classics as the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and the Backlot Tour).
Though we did get our Year of a Million Dreams prize thingers on it last trip so I can't badmouth it too much. >.>

as a reminder, you can always see upcoming refurbs/closing on the
official Operational Updates Page. you'll be able to see up to 6 months in the future, plus the current month.

Yeah, I checked there first. Well, actually I checked allearsnet.com's list first (which is easier to read).

What I heard was there would be a new video with new screens and even some rumors of it becoming imax and to include three audio-animatronics on board.... I guess we shall see. As for the current one, the movie is boring, but I love the roughness that the back corner seat has to offer. It makes me want to go on it every time we go to MGM/DHS.

It definitely needs a new movie, but I hope they don't make it imax. That would mean they would need to gut the whole building and it is one of my favorite rides at MGM, er DHS.

It is a bit predictable and boring after riding it several times, and I wouldn't be opposed to a refurb, as long as they keep it central to the classic trilogy. Not a fan of the Prequels and if I see one more thing centered around the Clone Wars, I'll go nuts.

At least Pixar didn't make
Star Wars: the Clone Wars. Otherwise you could guarantee it would be focused around the Clone Wars. Oh no, I just had a thought....WALL-E.

It's actually kind of a shame that Pixar didn't make that. If they had, maybe it wouldn't have looked so awful.
I imagine you're being facetious with Wall*E, there, but I'd be really surprised if they gave up on the Star Wars franchise easily. I think they need a big pop culture heavy hitter like that to combat Harry Potter at Universal. It's one of the reasons I'm hopeful they're actually working on it now, actually; the boy wizard is breathing down their necks.

Yes, pure sarcasm. I spoke to my sister yesterday, who still has a lot of friends at DHS and she said that it is going down for routine maintenance and an upgrade of the video and sound equipment only. They are upgrading everything to digital. Supposed to be doing the same to Muppet Vision 3-D. They won't easily give up on Star Wars, they make too much from Star Wars weekends.

They should make a 4-D Star Wars show. take the clone wars stuff and amp it with a little fun.

I say you can have both Original and Prequel SW in one ride!!! The ship can be some sort of time machine and you can visit various planets or battles...that would rock!!! and it would satisfy all parties. Todays youth really has caught on to the newer movies, so this way all generations can unite as one!!! lol
