Havn't heard n e thing bout it in a while. Seems like they keep pushin back the dates further and further. N e one hav a for sure date? I say just leave the attraction alone... if it aint broke, dont fix it. I would consider it a classic. It has a lot of history behind it. Let DL hav their rockin' space mountain, we got our rockin rollercoaster, we dont need n e more. I like the eerie silence and the clickity-clack of the train. I think there's more important things to refurb around the park and closin the ride would b a huge blow to park, in my opinion!

I haven't heard anything new...just the same old rumors.
Its also not on the official refurb schedule.
I am looking forward to a refurbed SM. Guess we will have to wait some more.

They close rides all the time that aren't broken to do PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE. it's kind of the same thing as taking your car into the shop to get the oil changed. Your car isn't broken, but you're still in the shop. why? so that it DOESN'T break down. Disney resorts/attractions are used 365 days a year (sometimes 366). with that much wear and tear on them, they need to close down for a little while to make sure nothing will go wrong/fix things before anything happens.
Granted, it may be an inconvenience if you visit during an attraction closure, but I, personally, would rather have the attraction closed/fixed up so it's safe next time I visit, than for something to happen while I'm there...
and, as always, for any official closings, you can always check the
"Operational Updates" page over at disneyworld.com. and so far, looks like only the Country Bear Jamboree, Hall of Presidents, and the Liberty Belle Riverboat are going to be down for refurbs. nothing in tomorrowland

But adding PIXAR to the ride would make it more better.

No more Pixar! I say leave Space Mountain as it was. If they want to just make it better, like HM, that's fine. Does anyone know when it's going to re-open, or has it already?! Sorry if I missed it in this thread earlier on.

jcodirewolf was was being facetious. I highly doubt they'd add Pixar to SM.
as for HM, it's been open for quite a while (I think about a year now, if I'm not mistaken).

I don't believe SM has closed. I think they are just speculating about a possible long-term refurb sometime in the near future. The date that seems to be going around now is Jan '09. But like others have said above, the date keeps getting pushed back, so really, who do you believe? I guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

I heard they were going to close it so it would reopen in time for the WDW 40th anniversary

I just got back and Space mountain was the most popular ride. To me, it doesn't make sense for disney to close a popular ride and change it. My opinion is that it won't close unless there is a major problem. I think they know don't mess with a good thing.

as I said earlier in the thread, they take some attractions down for PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, even if there is nothing wrong with it. they do that so no problems happen. as the parks are open 365 days a year, that sort of thing is very important.
also, don't forget the refurbs/updates to rides that don't need them (horizons, alien encounter, timekeeper...)
